After my last panic attack my GP prescribed me a cure of 6 months of antidepressant SSRI, have you ever tried them?

SSRI (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors) are used to treat depression and panic attack. I also suffer from anxiety. I read the many side effects and I wonder, does it really work? Have you ever tried them?

Yes I have. SSRI antidepressants can be very effective for depression and anixety. There some side effects which are said to fade after a while but they gradually start to work after 8 weeks and can be effective.

They do not cause addiction problems like Prescription Opoids medications for sleeping or Benzodiazipines that can be prescibed for anixiety which cause a lot of side effect which include phsyical addiction.

I have been on an off SSRI anti-depressants and I started to feel better. Continue with your prescription and always make sure to take the correct dose and the correct time and continue with any follow up appointments with GPs and Mental Health nurses so that they know you are getting on with them. If you find some of the side effects troublesome, they might switch you onto another make of anti-depressants.

I had major depression and anixety and I had sucidial thoughts all the time and I took them for a few years and I am still here. I am off meds now but I have been told to see my GP if I ever feel that is coiming back.

Yes, that's what he said ! He said they had fewer side effect than Benzodiazipines and Opioids... I'm glad you feel better now. It's nice to hear I'm not alone, because nobody seems to understand how I feel. My family think I'm overstating my situation, but they don't really understand how bad it can be... Do you think I will ever recover from this?

Yes. You will. It takes time and it also helps to keep a diary and log any feelings and triggers that causes it. After taking the SSRIs for a while you will find you will slow start to feel better and happier. Make sure you keep your regular follow-up appointments and also it might help to ask to be referred to see a psychologist or therapist that might also help with how you feel. I am sorry to read that you family think you are overstating you anixety. You would not have been prescribed anti-depressants if the GP did not feel that it was help. Also register with some forums and sites that offer support for anyone suffering from depression and anixety also. Keep a secret online diary and just write in it how you feel and how you day was and it also might help to identify any triggers. Take care of your physical health and eat healthily and go out for walks or do things that my feel you might enjoy and bring relaxation to you. I like netflix.

Yeah some Antidepressants can make you feel worst
these doctors nowadays won't give you a benzo type medicine
such as Klonopin ,. Your doctor may want prescribe something like:
Keppra, Trileptal , I'm on Keppra now and seems to be doing wonders
for my mood disorder i think antidepressants can make your mood worst
it happens with me all the time. I take Zoloft i fall into a deep mood
it i take Prozac i laugh all the time and very hyperactive i have Bipolar

Don't let anyone's opinion deter you. I started suffering from depression about 5 years ago. SSRI's did nothing for me, however that is only one class of drugs that treats depression. I ended up finding the combination of Abilify and Duloxetine (SSNRI) and it worked wonders. Complete game changing.

So, have patience and keep trying different medications and combinations until you find what works for YOU.

I'm happy you found the right combo! However I don't suffer from depression, I have mood problems but I'm not depressed, I' m more stressed. He said it's something which can be solved. Is it true? Or will I have to take meds for the rest of my life?

Thank you very much! If you're not actually suffering from depression I don't see a purpose in prescribing you medication. Diet, sleep hygiene, and most of all exercise should suffice.

He prescribed me meds because I've been suffering from anxiety for a couple of years and of panick attacks for 6 months and he told me SSRI are used to treat those condition too and I'll be less likely to develop addiction :)
I already exercise, and I already have an almost perfect diet, the thing is I can't really sleep (because of anxiety and panick attacks) and it's getting harder for me to live normally my life because of this persistent sense of anxiety

Oh!! That makes perfect sense. Yeah, he's absolutely right, SSRI's are also used to treat anxiety disorders and they're also not likely to form addictions. Congrats on keeping a good diet and exercise regimen, and it makes sense that you're unable to sleep. I assume your issue is that you have trouble getting to sleep, right? Have you ever heard of melatonin before?

Yes, during these years I've tried anything "natural" I could find but nothing really worked for me so I asked for my doctor's help... I live a really stressful life and so it's quite impossible for me to remain calm. I've trouble getting to sleep because I'm always anxious but before I never had troubles with sleeping. Now I can sleep just few hours and I wake up several times during the night. When I have a panick attack I don't sleep at all and I stay awake for more than 48 hours, and it's really terrible because I have classes... I hope this will be solved, because I wouldn't like to take meds for the rest of my life as I'm just 20
