How much strength training should I do?

I'm just beginning strength training on my own, not in a gym. How many times per week and for how long is enough for a beginner? Is a set of dumbbells and body weight exercises enough (such as those on www.fitnessblender.com)? How much should the dumbbells weigh? How much should
I pressure myself each time? Just a bit, to feel a bit of strain, to the point it hurts, or to the point I feel sore for a week? Can I do both cardio and strength training in one day? What goes first? I can use some help. Thanks in advance
