Yeah running will really help with losing weight, but what you eat is probably the most important part about losing weight. I suggest finding out how many calories your body needs and creating a calorie deflect of 500-1000 calories. Stick with lots of veggies and clean foods. NO PROCESSED FOODS! I would mix cardio with weight training. I would run at least 3-4 times a week and along with weight training to build muscle. But you need to drop your body fat % to see definition.

If you're going to be a cop, you need to be able to run and climb. Start some cardio to begin shedding excess weight and increase your stamina, and then hit the weights to build your muscles up.
Go and ask the trainers at the gym for advice on what machines and exercises you should be doing.
