How often should you really eat during the day?

I've just gotten into meal prepping and a weight loss program that's kind of in the vein of what atheletes do to train for games or to keep in shape. Lot's of HIIT (high intensity interval training), agility drills, swimming, running, weights, etc. It's exhausting and I'm finding myself hungrier more often than I was before I got into the program. I prep clean eating meals for lunch mainly, and some for dinner.

Should I stick to 3 meals, 2 snacks or eat every 3 hours, or just eat when hungry. Not too sure.
