If they are abnoxiously skinny (skin&bones)- Diet supplements are okay when taken with a regular meal; however, taking a diet pill in place of a meal is dangerous and should be avoided.
If they are an athlete between an average weight (Athletic->Curvy)- Diet supplements are okay when taken with a regular or "diet" type meal; however, taking a diet pill in place of a meal is still dangerous and should be avoided.
They are not overweight, so I don't need to cover that fact. If a member from the community would like this answer. I would advise speaking only to a direct physical trainer from a credible local gym. They can help you achieve the results you are looking for and save you a lot of money (from retarded online scams) in the mean time.

I agree with ArtistBoy. Start a healthy diet and stay away from the pills.
@ArtistBoy - I have no idea what I did to p*ss you off? I tried to give you the +1 but you have me blocked! What's going on man? I don't try to p*ss people off, but I seem to have a talent for doing so.
People with eating disorders do that. Even without the diet pills, it's not a good sign that your friends are trying to lose weight when they're not overweight. Getting toned is one thing, but they're more likely to become underweight by taking those pills, which definitely isn't healthy.
Also, diet pills aren't the healthiest way to lose weight whether a person is overweight or not. They're generally not approved by the FDA, which means there could be anything in them, and they only help you drop the weight, they don't improve your health otherwise.
