Anonymous(30-35)+1 yIt's not as bad as you think it's going to be. They'll sit you back, numb you a little, and slide and IV in your arm. It'll feel like a little pinch.
Then you'll blink, and they're helping you out of the chair. Itll feel like no time has passed. I didn't even remember passing out, and even asked the dentist why he was helping me to stand up when he hadn't done the surgery yet.
The recovery is the only sucky part. The narcotics I was given had no affect on me, and I flushed them down the toilet and took ibuprofen instead. My wisdom teeth were growing in weird, though, so they cut into my jawbone to remove them. I expect that's why my recovery was so painful. For two weeks it hurt to even talk. I couldn't eat chips or popcorn for several months.
Don't let my story scare you, though. Likely they won't need to cut into any bone. My sister had hers out a little over a week ago, and her worst time was right when the anaesthesia wore off, because the pharmacy took too long to get her prescription ready. I'm sure you'll be fine.00 Reply

+1 yI had all 4 of mine removed at the same time. They put me under general anesthesia so I was asleep the whole time and didn't feel a thing. When I woke up, I was a bit sore. Lol My mom told me I said some pretty off the wall things too, so I guess she got some humor out of it. It does hurt but it's not unbearable. They give you plenty of pain medication afterwards. My jaw was swollen and bruised for about a week after and I could only eat soft foods. I remember sleeping a lot that week but then the week after, it was better.

@blondfrog Haha yeah, it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be.
Anonymous(25-29)+1 yYou gotta be kidding. .. to be honest I was Hella scared and thinking about it 2 weeks before it.. and lol, I was like "what about my other 2, my mom said to take out 4 of them" there like "yes ik your done" I got up and told my mom to check and they told her they did 4 of em llool. . You serious have nothing to worry out... to tell you, mine were really strong and hard, my teeth are generally hard as f... but you don't feel shit other then pulling, duh... the not so well part is recovery.. as soon as you get back to home, it's kinda annoying since you have to take the cloth out and wash your mouth a bbit. ... IT'S OK TO SWALLOW SOME BLOOD, don't worry I know it sounds weird.. but it's a piece of cake.. after you wake up in the morning, it's over. .. just don't open your mouth a lot. . you won't be able to, unless like 4 days have passed, you will slowly open it

Can be great, can be bad. No way to know in advance. I knew a girl who described it as the most painful experience of her life. I knew a guy who went home and played basketball the same day he had his out.
I was somewhere in between. I had to have general anesthesia to have mine out. It was rough but doable. I remember that I couldn't feel my tongue after the surgery and (unknowingly) kept trying to spit it out. Haha.
Whether or not your wisdom teeth are "impacted" seems to make a big difference in the pain level. If they aren't impacted it's a far less intimidating procedure.
You'll do great. Don't worry. Good luck. :)20 Reply

+1 yI popped a pill that knocked me out during the whole thing. Didn't even realized when it started and when it finished, even though I wasn't fully asleep. The operation itself wasn't bad for me at all, but the post-operation pain man... Also, I barely ate the following week and looked something like this

+1 yNo way, having my wisdom teeth removed was the greatest time of my life (the after part, not the actual extraction). I was on vicodin for a couple weeks, and even though I had a dry socket (the blood clot of the extraction site got sucked out and exposed the bone to the air, hurts like a mother) I had a fantastic time. Spent the first few days just chilling on my couch watching TV stoned out of my gourd.

Asker+1 yHaha! I've heard dry socket hurts like hell.

They do, but they're pretty rare, which is my typical luck. Still, I enjoyed the experience.
Asker+1 y@blondfrog Doesn't sound too bad.
Asker+1 yIt's not so much the after part that scares me. I'm just afraid of the procedure itself.
- +1 y
Well I had them put me out for my procedure, it was as simple as a needle in the arm and a few hours of painless unconsciousness. Honestly, you don't have anything to worry about.
Asker+1 yThanks, that makes me feel a bit better.

Wisdom teeth aren't bad.
You're kinda uncomfortable for a few days after. But they give you drugs and its not bad at all.
And you'll likely be knocked all the way out for it
You'll also be fine on anesthesia, I'm sure:)20 Reply- 755 opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic.
+1 yNo it's not that bad. We're all afraid of the unknown.
I only took 1 pain killer that night before bed just in case. I didn't really need any.
I was told to bite on tea bags to help stop the bleeding.
I have no idea why OR if it works. I did it anyway. I figured it couldn't hurt.10 Reply
+1 yNo, it's honestly not so bad, it depends what the procedure certain places do it. They put a mask on me I believe and then an ivy in my hand, takes about 15 minutes roughly, then they let you wake up until you're ready to go. For me it wasn't bad, but after the surgery, you might have swollen cheeks\lips which is normal. You'll be fine :) how many are you getting out?

+1 yhahah i had mine out a few years ago. is it fun? not particularly, and you'll be sore for a few days. but it's not terrible. and anesthesia isn't too bad. i've only ever been put under that one time. you fall asleep and next thing you know you're awake again! it doesn't feel like any time passes at all. so try not to worry about that. it feels quick haha :)
10 ReplyI've never had mine removed, but during basic training most had their wisdom teeth taken out. It was a gruesome sight. Their faces were swollen to heck, and they had bloody pillows and stained red towels. I hope you feel better. Hopefully, they gave you good drugs lol

Asker+1 yThanks! Pain killers make me sick so that part was actually the pits, haha
1.5K opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic. Its a bit over exaggerated and I got all my 4 wisdom teeth pulled they give you a tiny pill take completely puts you to sleep and when you wake up you become extremely dizzy and hi lol so you need someone to drive you. Then for a whole week your cheeks become swollen like a chipmunk lol. It hurts for a day or two then after that it just feels weird to eat for a a few weeks.

+1 yI had two extra so I actually had 6 removed at once. I don't remember the pain after much, like it was uncomfortable more than anything. I heal quickly though so I wasn't down for that long and was eating soft solids a couple days after. I was on Oxycontin and took too much at one point at got really nauseous and confused, but other than that it went smoothly and I honestly can't remember being in pain. My sister remembers some pain after, but I don't.
00 ReplyOnly remember the IV being inserted and then waking up. I didn't eat properly after so I almost passed out a few times. The pain wasn't bad. I only took pain killers for the first day, but I couldn't focus when I took them, so I didn't take them after that. I was swollen for a bit, but the pain was minimal.
00 ReplyYou'll do fine. I had one pulled and three cut out when I was 14. I did fine. Pain meds plus doing exactly what dr tells u to do will help. Do not drink from straws till they give u the ok. I'm going to have lady surgery the 29th and I'm scared about being out to sleep but after several other surgeries I know all will be ok! Good luck to ya!

+1 yWisdom teeth are super easy. You go in, they give you gas, pull out the teeth, and send you home with pills. I was eating soup and softened bread at the end of the day and totally off Vicodin in like three days. Nbd

Asker+1 yI wish mine fit.
2.7K opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic. *shrugs* I don't know I still have mine, you don't have to have them removed though if they fit in your mouth with your other teeth then there is no reason to get rid of them.
20 Reply913 opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic. You don't necessarily need to have them taken out so don't do it unless you absolutely have to.
30 ReplyI was off pain killers the next day and the procedure was a breeze. The more you stress the worse it will be

+1 yHad mine taken out a few weeks ago... havn't felt pain for a while and even when I did it wasn't bad, but you would be surprised how long it takes to heal fully.

by the way when they say don't eat or drink the day of they mean it. Like not even half a glass of water.
380 opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic. My dentist told me it wasn't absolutely necessary to take them out so I was like ok then I'm out cu never :).
00 ReplyMy experience was that it was incredibly painful when they were actually removing the teeth. But I was perfectly fine by the next day. I believe I even went water skiing

+1 yI had no pain following extraction
I only used one painkiller of the pills given to me!
But we all dont react the same... and depends the orientation and if your teeth are really impacted etc. So everyone's situation is different00 Reply
+1 yHell yeah that shits scary. I won't ever get mine pulled. I'll just let them fall out on their own. I can take the pain. Screw dentists!
01 ReplyI haven't had mine taken out yet but it's a very minor surgery so I don't know why people make a big deal about it

+1 yI think it is a bit exaggerated. It hurts of course. But not as much as they describe.
00 ReplyIt hurt my adjacent teeth when they were pulling mine out. My bottom teeth haven't erupted at all so I haven't gotten them out
