Am I concentrating on the wrong things?

Currently I am 2 stone overweight. I really want to lose weight and have tried to before but I can never stay motivated for long enough. I normally focus on doing intense workouts and restricting my diet, I'm wondering if this is why I can't stay motivated? Would it be better to change my ways and maybe instead of focusing specifically on losing weight, I should focus on having a healthy lifestyle by making small changes to my diet and daily routine? Any help would be really appreciated
