It's a great thing that you are trying your best to change your life for the better, even though I understand that at that point suicide seemed like the best solution. It is a solution, but it's a lame one, since there are many things people can enjoy, after all, beauty is in the eye of beholder (you can see good things and you can see the bad things, but the situation will be the same). Of course, sometimes you are just feeling low, and it's normal. Every being has its ups and downs, but what is important is to recognize that these moments will pass. And when they come you can try and acknowledge these negative feelings. Meet your monsters and try to be friends with them. If you feel like you are doing your best but still can't deal with problems when they occur, I suggest going to a psychologist. I did when I had some problems, I still have them, but my outlook has greatly improved. It's the matter of practice, but I'm sure you will deal with it. Doing things that you have done and wanting to help yourself is the first and really important step! Good luck! :)

Its not u common. Just gotta train urself not to think that way. Not to get impulsive or scared. Smart people do stupid things when they are scared. Just get in the habit of being positive and the outcome will match that.
