How much do braces really hurt?

If you've had braces, how much do they really hurt?

I plan on getting them as soon as I can regardless, I just like knowing what to expect, plus the dentist terrifies me lol.

Does it hurt when they first get put on? And how bad when they're tightened? When they're removed?

The only part that really hurt for me personally was waking up the day after I had them put on. My teeth felt like they were on the ground (like, they felt incredibly heavy and that caused them to be sore). But that went away after a few days or less.

Sometimes the brackets can cut up the inside of your lip a bit, so they give you some wax to roll into a little ball and stick wherever its cutting into your lip.

I don't remember them being sore from being tightened.

Getting them doesn't hurt---I just couldn't stop licking my teeth for awhile after because you forget how smooth your teeth feel.

It hurts when they tighten them but not like 'omg I'm gonna die the pain is so bad' its bearable but I couldn't eat certain things because my teeth were sensitive.

it doesn't hurt when you get them off, when I got them off it felt like I had no teeth (because I was use to the brackets so it felt weird to feel my actual teeth)

Removal isn't so bad.. Putting them on isn't either it just takes a long time.. But the tightening does hurt.

It costs a lot and isn't really worth it unless your teeth are quite bad.
