Never let social pressure prevent you from working on something you need to improve as I see it. That seems like a good rule of thumb. You can laugh when you can out deadlift all the people who looked at you weird because of the strong glutes.

Not in my case, I started doing this because I used too much of my back doing squats and deadlifts, doing these allowed me to strengthen my glutes so I can use those instead of my back.
