losing weight is a gradual process def buy clothes that are cheaper and your current size that gives you shape, so you can enjoy having a nice wardrobe at the moment and lets say if you do lose drastic weight over a period of long time, then since the clothes are cheap you won't feel bad not wearing them anymore
i shop at forever21, their clothes are trendy and cheap so you can wear them and not worry if they go bad over time
for your shape, try layering wear long tanktops underneat nice trendy shirts, it gives the illusion that your tummy is slimmer than it is, wear fitted clothes, or nice flowy tops and use belts to sinch your waist, wear darker colors as opposed to super bright ones

Buy the size that fits you now. Buying a bigger size can be demoralizing, but it's much better to where something that's flattering because it fits properly. If you buy the smaller size, you'll just call attention to the fact that you need to lose a few pounds (going off what you said, anyway, I have no idea if you do or not). And to be perfectly honest, we've all "started" that new diet... and given up on it two days later. That or your body screws with you, and you lose the weight, but it's all from your boobs or something. Give yourself (and your body) room to mess up, and think of the new purchase as a reward for taking care of yourself.
litte? little... get something smaller that you can barely fit into. yes, that would be motivating.

Get the size that fits you! Whenever I go shopping, I'm always tempted to get a size smaller so I get motivated to lose weight, but it's just more realistic to buy what you currently feel comfortable in. Once you lose some weight, you can reward yourself with more clothes :P OR you might want to just postpone the shopping trip.
High-waisted jeans prevent muffin top, by the way :) I've got a chubby stomach, but all of my jeans go up to about an inch or two below my belly button, so they keep that lower stomach in check.I say, buy it to fit a little snug because you know it will fit soon. You won't be losing so much that you won't fit into them at all. You really aren't that over weight for being 5'6, unless you have a super tiny frame.
You coudl also buy things that you know will continue to fit, such as high waisted skirts, tunics and such.
Good luck on your quest to lose weight!wear maxi dresses. they're cute and sexy, but cover up what you don't want to show and show what you do want to show off
Ten or twelve and it depends on the brand.
