Covid-19 vaccines?

I am genuinely curious.

I have not gotten any vaccines for Covid-19. I am not against getting them at all. However I am waiting for three reasons.

#1. I'd like to see what side effects and long term side effects there are.
#2. If they do work then I'm sure there are elderly people who need it more than a healthy 33 year old.
#3. I believe that it should be a choice and no one should be forced to take it if they don't want it. The more pressure and freedoms are taken away, the less I view it as a choice.

I feel like all three of these are valid. But I've seen people making completely false statesments. Such as "you can't get covid after your vaccinated" or "there are no side effects at all"

I'm really curious to hear your thoughts on it

Speaking as someone who got vaccinated and would like everyone to do it, I understand your points and respect your stance on the matter. It is very well argumented (which is rare, believe me) and logic.
I obviously want full vaccination on everyone, and I can't understand those who straight out find want to for illogic reasons and misinformation that they believe, but I understand the caution you are showing and applaud it.
Still, I can't agree with the freedom thing. Making everybody get the vaccine protects freedom, doesn't take it away.

I don't see how forcing anyone to get vaccinated protects freedom. Forcing something on someone is the opposite of freedom. But at least here in Canada, our freedoms to go anywhere without mask, freedom to travel, freedom to operate businesses etc. Have all been taken away. And for now. People who are vaccinated don't get those freedoms back. Even when they do. People who aren't vaccinated will still have those freedoms taken away... again thus another way of taking away people choice to get it or not because the government is forcing it.

I've never understood anti vaxxers, they make no sense to me. But I just find it kind of funny that having a wait an see stance on things is viewed as childish or in some cases hurtful. And yet a lot of people just blindly follow what they are told... in my opinion both extremes are hurtful

Let me give you an example:

You don't get vaccinated because you don't want to. Ok. You get infected and have to go to the hospital. Just like you, many others that didn't want to get vaccinated have ended there and need treatment.
At the same time, a family on their car have an accident and they get translated to the nearest hospital. But because the hospital is so full with covid patients, they can't get the treatment they need and die.
Basically, keeping your freedom of choice so you don't get vaccinated steps on that family's freedom of being alive. If my choice, if my freedom, gets someone else killed, I don't want that freedom. I don't want to be responsible for someone else's suffering or death just because I didn't want to do something simple and painless "by force".

I how that explains my view on the matter.

So there are a few problems with that example.

#1. Covid still has an over 99% survival rate so even if I get covid, I have no underlying issues. Meaning I'm very unlikely to end up in the hospital

#2. If you are full vaccinated or not, you still have the exact same chance of catching and spreading covid as anyone else. All the vaccines do is lesson the symptoms and help create Anti bodies to help fight off covid faster.

#3. The city where I live. Even at the height of covid were never jammed with people. I am friends with several of the nurses here in the icu and on the covid unit... They have literally been bored for the last year because barely any came in.

#4. Even if it was the case, a family in a car accident would be going to a completely different unit than a covid case person would.

#5. Given that there have been some serious side effects such as blood clots and heart inflammation, in a lot of cases it's hasn't been simple and painless. And that's not even including the millions of people who have gotten sick from it. I had a co worker who was hospitalized for three days after getting his second dose and now wishes he had never gotten it.

I would disagree, I didn't lose anything.

More just explained why your example doesn't work. But I'm not here to argue. Just more clarify why I have the position I do and trying to see others opinions

I want to get the vaccine but new variants keep coming up so I end up waiting for the vaccine effective against that and guess what another variant
I'll just get whatevers available in the end wouldn't want to transmit disease to anyone, might not kill me but someone else so

The vaccines just lessen the symptoms of covid and give you a better chance of recovering faster... As far as I'm aware they do nothing to stop the virus or stop the spread

If everyone has antibodies to fight off the virus in their blood, the virus won't have any host left, that is what happened with smallpox I believe

Sort of, but we can still get covid more than once even when fully vaccinated.

But regardless, my original points would still remain the same as to why I am waiting

I think they are pretty valid. But I find it funny how some people are so against valid points

I haven't heard any yet other than my second point that elderly likely need it more than me. That likely those people at this point have gotten it. That is completely fair.

But the side effects concern, all I've heard is that "there's no side effects at all" or "your chances of having a side effect are so small" ... Problem with that argument is that your chances of death from covid itself is still less than 1%.

As for the freedom point. All I've heard is "you are taking away our freedom by not getting it" and my response to that is... I'm not taking away any of your freedoms, the government is. And by doing this. It's taking away people freedom to choose

Yeah... Sometimes I wonder if it'd take less of a toll on our minds if we kept living as in the dark ages, absolute power of authority and stuff lol we're living way too long now, all with the stress of knowing too much and too little at the same time
