boyfriend is like 5’5, 200lbs. He was way bigger before we met and actually 180 around the time we met. His grandfather passed away last year which led him to stop going to the gym due to grief. He picked up more weight and now he’s upset with himself. He’s starting to starve himself through the day and then eat/snack afterwards. I keep telling him to eat so he has energy but he’s so hyper focused on calorie intake and portion control. I haven’t said this out right to him but clearly his routine isn’t working. Growing up, my father worked as a personal trainer and always hit the gym for health and medical reasons. I’ve seen my dad make more progress in three months than my boyfriend but hey, he knows what he’s doing! I keep trying to tell him to eat before his 6am shift but “he doesn’t have the time”. I’d even be satisfied with a few pieces of fruit and banana. If we have the ingredients, I’ll make him a salad for lunch that he eats around 10. By 5pm he’s off work and going to the gym until 7, 7:30. Afterwards there’s a protein shake or poke or whatever I cook at him which is generally healthy. I cook mainly baked chicken or pan fried chicken since it’s less oil. After dinner, he’s still hungry since he’s only eating small portions then will snack on skinny popcorn, grapes, or granola throughout the night plus one or two Yasso yogurt bars. Nothing will change his mind to eat in the morning and I’m sure he’s not consuming 2,000 calories a day because he wants to burn as much fat as he can. I’ve tried to get him to go to my dad for a better routine but he wants to do things his way. Granted, his progress has come a long way but these past few months we haven’t seen any progress. He’s very disappointed in himself.

Losing belly fat can be challenging, but it is important to approach it in a healthy and sustainable way. Here are some tips that might be helpful for your boyfriend:
1. Avoid crash diets and extreme calorie restriction. Starving oneself throughout the day and then overeating later can actually slow down metabolism and make it harder to lose weight in the long run. It is important to eat enough to fuel the body and support physical activity.
2. Focus on whole, nutrient-dense foods that are low in calories and high in fiber. This can include foods such as fruits, vegetables, lean protein, and whole grains. These foods can help keep you full for longer and provide important nutrients for overall health.
3. Incorporate strength training exercises into the workout routine. Resistance training can help build muscle mass, which can increase metabolism and burn more calories even at rest.
4. Get enough sleep. Studies have shown that lack of sleep can lead to weight gain, especially in the abdominal area.
5. Consider reducing stress levels through relaxation techniques such as meditation, yoga, or deep breathing exercises. High levels of stress can lead to increased levels of cortisol, a hormone that can contribute to weight gain.
6. Be patient and consistent. Losing belly fat takes time and effort, and it is important to stick with a healthy lifestyle routine for long-term success.
It is also important to address any underlying emotional issues related to grief or stress that may be contributing to the unhealthy eating habits. Encouraging your boyfriend to seek support from a therapist or counselor can be helpful in this regard. Finally, it is important to support your boyfriend and encourage him in his efforts to improve his health, while also respecting his autonomy to make his own decisions about his lifestyle.
I’m sorry I’m busy atm I will reread this whole thing, but for now the general answer I can offer:
(any other core work out that doesn’t involve being on your back trying to sit up- there’s others, I just can think of the names rn).
Simple running/walking each day. Walking slims the whole body.
Cut back soda if you drink and try Gatorade alternative, eventually to just water. Stopping soda intake helps take out a good chunk of fat.
Water weight is easiest to lose than fatty weight and syrup weight- Google boiling coke to know what I’m meaning.
Best to you!
stay positive and really enjoy and focus on the outdoors.
You cannot loose fat on one place. You loose or gain it everywhere. Just put him on a good nutrition plan.
