In short, I have been out of shape since Covid started (probably only exercising once a month or so on average since then) and I’m noticing how weak and tired I feel after just a little bit of exertion. Like a few flights of stairs. Or carrying my groceries. Even when I've been at my best, I've never really been fit. But today, I'm nearly in the worst shape of my life.
When I say out of shape, I mean I can't run for 5 minutes. I do have weak abs. For reference, I can hold a plank for about 12-15 seconds. I really can’t do a sit-up, like at all. I can a few if my legs are held but I can not do one on my own. Also, the same applies to push-ups. I can’t do even one proper knee push-up. Basically I have a weak whole body and no cardio.
I just started a gym a week ago. I know what I need to do to get back on track, but I feel SO discouraged about how bad I've gotten that it seems like I'll never be fit again.
Any advice for motivating yourself when it feels like you're never going to get back in shape?
