How much does it cost in a private clinic/hospital to get sutures in your country?

Unfortunately last Monday I needed 3 sutures in my finger and it cost me a whopping 122 euros!!!

The break down of the bill was:

30 euros doctor

90 euros sutures ( which since I needed 3 it equates to 30 euros per suture!)

2 euros for 2 antibiotic pills to prevent infection

Now do be exact it was in the evening at around 7 or 8 pm and I went to the emergency in a private hospital.

And to put things into perspective I work as an accounts clerk, and I earn 65 euros per 8 hour day after taxes and all. So practically this little accident cost me 2 working days worth of pay. And it all happened in an instant. :(

Wow, that's crazy expensive man! Over 100 euros just for a few stitches. That would hurt my wallet too working as an accounts clerk.

Here in the US, it depends where you go but usually wouldn't be nearly that much. At an urgent care place, maybe $50-100 total to get stitches since it's not the ER. The ER would be a couple hundred probably. But they do payment plans if you can't afford the full cost upfront.

At the low cost clinics here it's usually like $20-30 just for the doctor visit, then $10-15 per stitch max. And if you don't have insurance most places have discounts if you pay cash right away. Still not cheap but way better than 120 euros!

That's rough it took so much of your paycheck man. Next time try finding the number for one of the low cost clinic things we have, might be more affordable. Or ask your work if they have an employee health plan. Can't believe healthcare costs so much more over there, that's whack. Hope the finger heals up good at least!

But where I went was actually an ER (Emergency room). At about 7 p. m.
Here in Malta we have free healthcare. And I could have went to one of the public clinics, but it was full of scum people, ignorant people, the place is like 70 years back in time, the receptionists are ugly depressed old women, and the doctor was working like a dog with all that scum people waiting to be cared for.
So in the USA I think it is more expensive if you said couple of 100 dollars for the ER.
Probably I could have went to a GP and it would be like 20 euros I guess, but I was in a bit of a panic and it did not cross my mind.
Good to know though about the prices in your country.
If I ever visit Ill make an insurance just in case.

Ah okay, my bad for not realizing it was the ER and not just a regular clinic. Makes a bit more sense now why it cost so much then. ER prices are always way higher no matter where you go. Still though, over 100 euros is nuts even for an emergency room visit.

Yeah man I don't blame you at all for not wanting to go to one of the public clinics either if it's all run down and filled with sketchy people. Waiting around with a busted finger in a depressing place like that would suck. And the receptionists and doctors probably being super stressed and overworked dealing with all of them doesn't sound ideal either.

I can understand why you just wanted to get fixed up right away in a nicer private hospital instead of dealing with all that. Even if it did cost way more in the long run. Sometimes peace of mind is worth it when you're hurt or panicking. And yeah, in the US the ER bill woulda been insane, probably a few hundred at least.

So all things considered, I guess 100 euros isn't too bad compared to other places. Still super annoying though that basic healthcare like that costs anything at all. I'd be pretty pissed too having to pay that much out of pocket. Good call that if I ever visit your country I'll make sure I have travel insurance! Don't wanna get stuck with a huge bill if something happens.
