I'm currently overweight but want to start making changes & lose. I don't like fad diets, I just want to continue eating everything basically, obviously not loads of junk , real food.
Work out exactly how much you want to lose, and aim lose 2 -3 pounds a week.
Whilst you may at first find that incredulously easy, you should try not to lose more for two reasons.
1) The steadier you are when losing weight, the more chance you have of keeping it off
2) It will help you get into a routine, unlike some people who go gung ho for the first month by losing 24 lbs, only to lose interest when it gets harder to lose.

Now we come to the important bit:-
Before undertaking any diet, you should speak to your doctor to confirm it is safe for you to do so. **
Next. The best way to lose weight is drink a glass of w3ater 30mins/1 hour before every meal. That will prevent you from getting too full
As per your question... NO!!! Never wait until you are so hungry to eat because you will overeat. Instead, the key is little amounts and often (without milk as I am finding a LOT of people doing) Milk in tea and coffee or cereal, but never instead of water.
** I placed two asterix up there because you also need to do this diet in conjunction with a fitness regime (If you are serious,) and that has to be Ok'd by your doctor too!
As for fasting? I wouldn't. Some people can and some people cannot without getting extremely bad tempered. (diabetics for example, NEVER should)
I wish you well on your journey to weight loss and better health!

You are in a caloric deficit when you burn for calories than you consume. You won't know without knowing your intake and output
I am not a dietician nor am I a doctor but I believe that it does not have to mean that you are in a calorie deficit.
Your body has gotten used over the years to have a calorie intake at regular intervals. Your brain has registered that pattern and is simply reminding you that it is time for your snack, fizzy drink or whatever you fed it in all those years.
You don't have your metabolism under control and your brain reacts in a similar way as those people that are addicted to substances. It wants it and the more you listen to your growling tummy, the more it gets accustomed to be fed.
I would suggest you consult a dietician that can help you eat the right foods at the right time. It is very difficult to lose weight on the long term and if you are not cautious, you will gain more weight due to this yo-yo effect. Good luck.
