Do you get LEG CRAMPS?

Question

I woke up in the middle of the night with a painful cramp in my right calf. I climbed out of bed, put my foot flat on the floor, and stretched the muscle for a minute or so. The cramp eventually went away.

Do you ever get leg cramps? What do you do when you get one?

I was getting ready leg cramps in my calf in each leg when I started taking Stating medicine to get my cholesterol down. My sister had the same thing happen to her - so we stopped taking them and the leg cramps stopped.
There are videos that I would love to put up here but too many people complain about it - no matter what the subject is.
So I have lost my drive to try to help the people on here by providing valuable information on health and relationships along with other subjects that I think would be helpful.
That's a shame because there's a video about leg cramps. Maybe you can find it on YouTube because I am not here to be someone else's chaos.

I get it every now and then but there a time few years ago I was getting it quite frequently. It's horrible and I feel like I'll die from pain 🤐 stretching my leg always help but when the cramps goes away it leaves behind this awful burning sensation in my calf. I tend to gently rub my muscles gently to release the tight muscles, it brings a relief. Sometimes I use warm compress too and if my muscle feels sore I use ice compress and take vitamin b supplement for the next few weeks.

I started getting nighttime Charley Horses about 10 years ago. The usual cure is to take potassium on a daily basis. I started with one 99 mg capsule of potassium citrate (widely available without a prescription) that I take in the evening after dinner. Eventually, I increased to two capsules. It is completely effective in remedying the problem and there are no reported side effects to long term use of potassium.

I have been getting them for years but in the thigh. I used to take magnesium to keep them away, but my cardiologist told me to stop as that was bad for my heart. I have some heart conditions so it may not be a general thing. I will have a banana when I get a cramp and that will soon get rid of the cramp.

I used to. Quinine sulfate pills are often used to relieve them, or, just grab a bottle of quinine water and that will help in many cases. Check with your doc first before changing any diet, though.

Yes. I went even to professional masseur, it was 40 minutes hell on earth and didn't help like amateur massages of my friends either. Once I went to 50km bicycle travel the evening after my calf muscles danced samba. Somehow walking on two legs might be energy efficient but it seems putting entire weight just on two muscles which work like shock absorbers was a mistake of nature.

A bottle of Pedialyte Sport (specifically), if available & handy, almost immediately alleviates this problem.

I strongly suggest you get some Pedialyte Sport for yourself.

Stay hydrated. Eat more potatoes and bananas and/or take a potassium supplement. Since it was a nocturnal cramp, take a vitamin K supplement, or eat more of the yucky veggies; spinach, kale, collard greens, broccoli or Brussels sprouts. Think “dark green leafy veggies” and you’ll get more vitamin K. You may still need a supplement though. My best friend’s father got bad leg cramps at night and was prescribed a vitamin K supplement.

Magnesium deficiency will do that Pretty common in people of all ages and physical activity levels Just get some supplements and you should be good to go I used to get them but haven’t in years

I have got them in the middle of the night before and sometimes they can be VERY painful!! I try different stretches. Not sure they help, but the pain goes away in a few minutes.

Ah yes, the dreaded Charlie horse. Not drinking enough fluids (water) can lead to electrolyte imbalances, which can trigger muscle cramps.

I do sometimes but in the neck more than leg. If I've been working out too much then the leg but I put the neck down to riding a motorcycle and not stretching enough

I haven't had any in a long time. The ones I used to sometimes get, were caused by my using my muscles to bring my foot (toes) up, while laying in bed. I relieved it by getting out of bed, and pushing my foot (toes) down

Yes, I used to get that a lot especially when I sleep but it doesn't happen anymore. I had a way of relieving myself off that pain, I raise my toe fingers up for a while and that's it. The pain disappears
