i found scissor crunches to be the best for lower abs, cos I used to do normal sit ups ad stuff but I couldn't tone the lower ones!
lay flat on your back and raise your legs out straight very slightly
then open and close your legs like a pair of scissors.
it absolutley kills, but it works

Abs are one of the easiest muscle groups to work since most exercises that target it require no equipment whatsoever, only enough space on the floor to lay down.

One thing that is fun AND works abs and well, pretty much everything in your body, is bellydancing. Hula dancing also. Look up "Island Girl Workouts - Hula Abs & Buns" on YouTube; it's a free, super fun workout. I'd put a link in here myself, but apparently I am not allowed until Level 4...
What I found that works for me is crunches (regular and alternating). And like Raptor said, planks. They kill, but are worth the burn.
