I haven't had knee surgery, but I did have significant ankle problems. I had severe sprains of both of my ankles (at different times). The first one I did all of the physical therapy and stretching and exercised they asked for and it recovered fully. The second one I kind of slacked off because I thought it would just get better, and it never recovered fully. It's fine, but obviously looser than the other ankle.
The situation sucks because you have to be relatively inactive for such a long time, but my best advice is just to really focus on the physical therapy. It is in your best interest and it's the only way you'll get back to where you were before.
Best of luck :D

I HAVE A STIFF KNEE WHICH CAUSES PAIN WHEN I'M STILL FOR A PERIOD, DR SAYS I SHOULD HAVE SURGERY FOR A DAMAGED LIGAMENT, I'M NOT SURE IF I SHOULD THOUGH, THEY SAY A LIGAMENT WILL BE TAKEN FROM MY BACK SIDE & REPLACE THE DAMGED ONE IN THE KNEE, I'M WORRIED & SCARED OF IT TO BE HONEST . . .
my 15 year old had to have arthroscopic surgery on her hip for a labral tear which required her to be off of her leg for 6 weeks and required about 20 weeks of physical therapy. she tore it running cross country in high school. It was hard but she's on the other side of it now and is finally able to run and it no longer hurts. cross my fingers every time she takes off though because it went on for a year before they even figured out what was wrong with her.
just be thankful there's something they can do to fix it and then be patient and know it will take time to recover fully.
Ooo I'm studying physical therapy...can you update on what you all do in the sessions?

I've had torn shoulder ligaments, sort of the same thing. Follow the doctor's advice to the letter during rehab, because you'll have to be a good patient for the rest of your life. THe doctor can sort of fix this, but it will never work as well as the original, so you'll always be doing rehab, basically, and always have to be careful of the knee, if you want it to hold up!
This hasn't happened to me, but it happened to a friend while doing gymnastics. It really sucked for her because she had to quit gymnastics for the rest of her season. She dealt with it pretty well though. I just felt bad.
well once when I took a arrow to the knee
