The job I had didn't provide me with any benefits so I continued to purchase my own health insurance that I had been doing since I reached the age of 25 and was dropped from my dads. Now I'm unemployed and searching for jobs but I still continue to pay around $200 a month which is actually one of the cheapest policies out there. It sucks but I'm not going to let medicaid keep me up when I know I can afford it even though I'm not loaded with money. All in all I don't think anything should be forced on anyone but it would be nice to have options other than living off of the government. I don't think prisoners should have any of the benefits they get in jail...they're treated better than a lot of people in the world and they're criminals! Elderly are taken care of for the most part with medicare luckily EVEN THOUGH they don't always get the proper care due to it being Medicare.

A right.
Section 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
(1) Everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control.
I'm surprised that so many people are selfish enough to think otherwise because of "tax dollars", etc that it would take to fund a public health program. I'd rather my taxes be used to help people with health care as opposed to blowing people up. Working people can't afford private health care. How can it possibly be fair for a government to leave one of the most basic human rights to a person's wallet?
Everyone should have the right to health care. The funny thing is most people are pro life when it comes to an unborn child but what happens after he/she is born? Shouldn't we all have the right to life no matter how much or little a person or family makes? When do you stop putting a price tag on the value of a human beings life? Basically poor people don't deserve to live that's pretty much what it looks like from where I stand. Some say get a job well that's great but nothing is guaranteed. What happens to a father or mother who had a great job and fails ill and can't work anymore? To bad for them right? We should be taking care of each other. We need to start caring, to bring the love of humanity back into the hearts of everyone.
Now it's more and more a privilege of the wealthy as the benefits for public employees are constantly being cut back...
It should be a right for everyone, as in EVERY OTHER INDUSTRIALIZED COUNTRY, and some of the not so industrialized too!
Obama just subsidizes private insurance companies with his plan, it's no answer for most people, and with no cost controls the price will go out of sight, all for private profit.
A right, it's practically in the Constitution. "promote the general welfare"

A well taken care of population is a hallmark of a civilized society. Survival of the fittest not so much.
Ah, yes.. the United States...
Where the rich (doctors) get richer, and the poor... die. It's not so much about the made up notion of a right as it is about sound, cold, calculating economics. The private insurance monopoly is a racket favoring only a few racketeers and wreaking havoc for everyone else.
I'm obliged to say it should remain a private business, but with newfound regulations on it. In our country, public healthcare would be massively inefficient and abused because we aren't arranged like countries in the EU, for example.
America, F*** YEAH. Ain't nuffin wrong with dis country!
If people worked they would be able to afford health care...therefore it should remain a "privilege."
