I did both, personally I liked Insanity a lot better. I thought it was harder than p90x but at the same time easier to stick to. The insanity workouts are shorter on average and very fast going so you will never get bored with it.
p90x is pretty much classic weight lifiting with some cardio and yoga mixed in. But I thought the cardio workouts weren't really exhausting and the weight lifiting workouts were just plain boring at times. The only major advantage compared to just doing it in a gym is that you get a lot of guidiance. If you watch people in gym handeling weight, you will find that a whole lot of them have no idea what the hell they're doing which will not only give them bad results but also increase the risk of injury. This whole muscle confusion idea has also become kinda popular so that almost every fitness magazines feautres an article on it from time to time.
If your goal is to build muscle and not lose weight though, Insanity is not for you, p90x is. With insanity you will build very little muscle mass just a bit from jumping and maybe some abs, but it is mainly a cardio programm. You will lose weight and increase your stamina with it, but you will not get super ripped.
My results have been OK. My Insanity fit test results have in fact been insane so that's a great plus. I didn't lose a lot of weight though with either of the programms and did not get significantly more tone, exept maybe getting more muscular arms. I was fairly fit when I started though so insane weight loss like 20 or 30 lbs like some people state were probably not possible anyways

Insanity is good if you want to shred quickly. P90x is for muscle building. I've had better luck with insanity, but nutrition is 90% of any fitness program. When you warm up to that, try interval training at the gym, boxing, jumping rope, kettle bells, ect.
I've tried Insanity, and eventually, I'll actually go through it, I'm too out of shape to handle it at the moment.
It's basically cardio kickboxing, which I've done before at a gym class with excellent (and I mean, excellent) results. It's difficult and intense, but Shawn T is a pretty good motivator on-screen. I have high expectations.
I tried P90X, and it was good, but I'm just not a fan of using giant rubber bands in my workout routine.
I did P90X. Tore up my right knee from doing it too. They work if you follow it. I was doing the kicks on the carpet and messed up my knee. It's basically just the discipline to work out everyday, if you don't have that, it won't work. And get your diet in check too.

Define 'good' and 'satisfactory'?
Its almost certainly not an ideal program for anyone. On the other hand if you enjoy it more then other things and find it easier to stick with, it is many, many times better then doing not much at all.I don't know anything about them except that I had friend who did P90x and he went from fat to ripped! Pretty quickly too from an observer's point of view.
I have both P90x and Insanity and they both work but you have to stick with it either 90 days for P90x or 60 days for insanity you will see reuslts quickly..
