For protein:
Eggs and/or egg whites
Tuna
Tofu
Chicken
Turkey
Beans
Limited amounts of peanut butter
Dairy:
Skim Milk
Greek yogurt
Grains:
Breads with fiber--100% whole wheat bread
Cereals high in fiber and low in sugar (I like Go Lean and Unsweetened Shredded Wheat)
Unsweetened Oatmeal
Fruits:
Pretty much anything that is fresh fruit. Avoid fruit juices and dried fruit.
Veggies:
Anything is good, just know that iceburg lettuce and cucumbers are pretty nutritionally weak, and fresh vegetables have the best nutritional value. Eat vegetables when you have a case of the munchies, and regularly every day.
Fats:
Nuts and nut butters, unsalted
Cook with canola oil
Fish oil
Salmon
Avocados and Olives
Limit things containing saturated fat, such as chocolate and ice cream and well all dorts of stuff.
Get enough sleep every night. Avoid foods high in sodium, because they will cause you to retain water. A LOT of stuff you might not expect has a whole bunch of sodium in it, so check labels. Also, things that say they are "low fat" or "fat free" usually are LOADED with sugar, so check labels for that too. Too much sugar is worse than too much fat.
Things I personally avoid like the plague are soda and fried foods.
Diet foods made with chemical substitutes aren't all they are cracked up to be, and I would avoid those too.
Message me if you have any other questions, I do know a thing or two about nutrition.
Good luck! :)

My favorites are: chicken breasts (no skin), broccoli, sweet potatoes (sliced and roasted, baked, etc), roasted asparagus, egg whites, red bell peppers, black beans, blueberries.
Use pinterest to find good, healthy recipes. There are tons of great ideas. Using SOME olive oil is good, but make sure to measure it if you really want to lose weight.
kheserthorpe already listed a lot of things, so I'm just going to add something.
This isn't an obvious one, but you should avoid very sweet fruits on your diet. link
You can eat a lot of Swiss Cheese and meat in general.
Bovine(cows, bulls, buffalo's), pork, fish, fowl(chicken, turkey, ducks, birds), eggs, olives, avocados, plants, vegetables, tuber roots (carrots, sweet potatoes, and yams), stems (yucca), bark(ginger, turmeric), fruits, berries, nuts, seeds, and cocoa. The meat you buy, get it pasture raised free range or wild. Make sure they are not injected with hormones and antibiotics. Bovine buy grass fed. Make sure it says 100% grass fed or grass finish for it to be a legit source. I would refrain from eating fish right now because the amount of radioactive leakage going in our ocean from Japan. Check what kind of diets given into their feed, you want legit non gmo sources(genetically modified organisms). They just raise the glyphosate levels from 200 parts per million to 6000 parts per million and now that can increase the rate of cancer dramatically, so buy organic produce such as the plants, vegetables, fruits, and berries. If you are going to buy dairy, raw and unpasteurized believe it or not is the healthiest choice.

It depends on how aggressive your diet is? An 800 calorie a day diet, start your morning with 2 egg whites, lunch time have A 400 calorie meal, you can get those in the frozen sections, then for dinner, a salad with egg whites. that kind of diet alone should lose a half pound day. then if your diet starts to get stagnant you need to step it up by eating a large portion of steak for protein.
I have lost weight, about 50lbs past year so here you go.
All meats are OK as long as you stay away from breaded meat like chicken nuggets and processed sh*t.
All veggies
Fruits I stay away from except rarely since its higher in sugar.
FATs are a must. Eat coconut, avocados, nuts, olive oils, butter.
I also stay away from dairy.Depends on what type of diet you want to follow. Low fat, low carb, etc. People don't agree on what is the best. Tomatoes, blue berries, straw berries, dark leaf greens, and eggs have a lot of healthy stuff in them. Some people don't like to eat eggs because they have a lot of cholesterol. Others believe that eating cholesterol, doesn't actually raise your cholesterol.
Stay away from starches like corn, white bread, potatoes, and white rice.Spinach

Cut out all animal by products. Or as many as you possibly can, anyway. Start eating mainly plants.
Fruits/Vegetables/lean meats, whole grains. As little processed food as possible. As they say, shop on the outside aisles of the grocery store.
You don't need dieting food. Eat 1/4 of an egg plant everyday on top of your regular diet. They contain 16 grams of fibre and they are dirt cheap.
If you're lookin to lose weight, Watermelon, blueberries, pomegranate, and grapefruit can definitely help :)
White beans are good for you. Celery is good for you. Avocado is good for you. Spinach is good for you. Fish is good for you. Stick with foods like that. Keep it natural, don't eat processed foods.
