May I ask what type of body shape do you have? Are you naturally thin? I also have good ab definition without really trying...but for my legs I work them out A LOT...but I have rather short legs with big thighs and butt...they are muscular but still don't look how I want them too...I use the Arc trainer (similar to the elliptical but so much better) and the stairstepper...I work out straight for an hour (30 mins per machine) and they have helped a lot

Try squats or dead lifts. By the way I'll trade you some leg muscle definition for some abs.
Squats are more for the back upper thigh/gluteus so I'm not sure why you have the impression that they'll tone your legs. Likewise, running does not tone legs as much as you think it does. Want toned legs? Do calf/thigh weight exercises.
lunges, leg press, calf raises, leg curls etc. in other words you have been doing isolation exercises for your abs and therefore you should try isolation exercises for your legs

Well did you read the story " A Foolish Stag"?
All that glitters is not gold. remember it. And be thankful for what you have. See those that don't have legs. try to make your best and stay confident.;Try dead lifts. I'll give you some more tips in abit,,, eatiing at present lol
