or it is not necessary? Me and mom were invited to celebrate the birthday of my mom`s niece daughter on Sunday. The one who invited us is moms niece as her famikly and us are very very close and we usually go out on gatherings together often. This time we are skipping the celebration due as my mom having the flu. But if we were going we had to buy the birthday lady a gift plus paying for the food at the restaurant. ANyway, we are not going, but I dont know if still is important to give a gift still and give it to the lady at some other day or is not necessary cause we are not going to the restaurant for the celebration.

According to my sister (who is attending the birthday but me and mom are not going due to my mom having COVID). My sister says that if we are not attending it is not necessary to buy her a gift and give it her another day. Also my sister says that nowadays it is not even necessary to give a gift, especially if people do not gather often. I mean this lunch is a gathering isn't it? Bottom line is my sister says if me or mom are not going is nto necessary to buy gifts. is that true?=
