Gifts for your special someone?

This is mainly for the ladies but guys can answer too.
Should your special someone buy you a gift, does it have to be a brand name? As in, if a guy wants to buy his girlfriend a purse, does it have to be a brand name? Or can he just buy something he finds cute at whatever price from whatever make?
I guess the equivalent for guys is powertools, do you guys want it to be a specific brand if your girl buys you one?

I love power tools my drill is the favourite, bought a circular saw, hedge trimmer, chain saw, strimmer. All great, purses as in wallets in America are nice, depends on the person, some like brand names. Personally I like quality without a brand name or logos as I’m not being paid to advertise.
