What could be a good birthday gift for a man?

My boyfriend is about to have his birthday, unfortunately, I recently had to leave my job for reasons I won't mention, so I'm short on money. Even if I can't give him the birthday present on the exact day, I will give it to him anyway. Now, when it comes to preferences, it's not like I don't know him, but it's a bit complicated because he always says he would be fine with anything I gave him. However, when I think of a gift, I would like it to be something that will last as a memory or that is special. I thought about some kind of jewelry, but he doesn't wear it because he finds it uncomfortable, but he said he would wear it if I gave it to him. I thought about a watch, but it's the same situation. A wallet, but I don't know his wallet preferences, so I plan to ask him. Even if I don't give him the wallet, I still want to know a bit more in detail what kind of things he likes. I thought about a cap, but he already has some and he doesn't usually wear them. Then I thought about clothes, but he literally doesn't care about how he dresses. Maybe a perfume, but he doesn't usually wear it. I've thought about several gifts, but in the end, I don't know what to give him. Any recommendations?
