Why do people sometimes think I'm taller than I actually am?

I am a 5'4" girl, 21 years old. Not short but I'm not tall either. I measure myself frequently because I've had several people tell me that from a distance I look a little taller? Like my current boyfriend thought I was 5'6" but he is 6' tall and when we are hugging, the top of my head touches the bottom of his collarbone so obviously I'm not very tall.
I want to be seen as short and cute. oh well

It could be a number of things. From shoes, to hair, being lean and even good posture. I'm the same height and people say the same thing.

Are you lean or skinny? What is the length of your legs relative to your upper body part? All this can influence the length impression.

Could be long legs relative you you upper body as @climber said. Or you're lean and not many curves.

maybe Its because you look real lean and they say thin people look taller
