My boyfriend hates talking on the phone. Guys what do I do?

I've been with my boyfriend almost 2 yrs. he has always hated talking on the phone but lately, the hate is even stronger. he's fine when ever were together but when it comes to talking at night he doesn't want to talk to me, instead he likes playing halo 3.

For example yesterday I didn't see him because I went out with my friend because he told me he was going to do something with his. his plans got canceled and instead he played halo the whole damn day.

i called him at night and told him to get off and talk to me. he had a pissy attitude. I'm always telling him that its good for a couple to communicate it isn't just hey lets go out and not talk about anything.

so what do I do?

Uh, yeah, a guy is going to be pissed if you tell him to stop playing Halo to come and talk to you. To put in perspective, it would be like him calling you during Grey's Anatomy or One Tree Hill (my little sister, 16 years old, loves that show), not cool at all.

How dare he play Halo all day instead of hanging out with his girlfriend and her friend! [/sarcasm]

I'm not saying that it wouldn't be fun or whatever, just that to a teenage boy, playing Halo would be a bit more enjoyable than hanging out with two girls.

You said when you two are together, that all is well.

I'd like to know what you both want out of your relationship with each other.

Communication is fine in a relationship, but it doesn't have to be an everyday thing.

You don't have to spend all your time together with him. You are two different people with your own lives. Let him play his Halo and get your own hobby.

My boyfriend hates being on the phone, but we have no way seeing each other most of the week. He deals with the quick conversations. I can handle it for the most part. The problem is I have really bad anxiety and depression and sometimes I just need to hear the voice of the person I love. Today for example I was talking with a friend about her father's health and it made me think of my Mother whom I lost to similar circumstances. I called my boyfriend just to talk about how I was feeling. It ended I'm tears and both of us frustrated. The thing is I have a tendency to bottle things in to an unhealthy level. I have a long history of suicidal thoughts and self destructive thinking. It's gotten better, but with how he keeps reacting I'm afraid I'll go back into my old way of self destructive thoughts. I'm at my wits end with this and nothing I say seems to get through to him. I just don't know what to do, because no matter what I do it just gets worse.

are you reading my mind? My boyfriend of 3 years also hates talking on the phone, and similar to you, we only see eachother on the weekend (we live 100 miles apart). I also have anxiety and depression. If we have a conflict, i try to fix it not ignore it. I have tried explaining that if I can just talk it out (in a reasonable amount of time) we could just talk about it once instead of giving him "breaks" and dragging it out for weeks. Seems like a no brainer to me but he just can't or won't do it.

Uhhhhhh, just sorta deal with it. Seriously, some guys just hate talking on the phone, let that be and just talk to him in person. And Halo 3 is a particularly awesome game, I can't say I blame him for getting interrupted and being pissy about it. Think about it, if you just got to a really important part in your book and your best friend calls 'just to talk'. It's gonna get annoying sometime. And the game isn't that easy unless your an expert so he probably really wants too beat it on the hardest mode. Of course you are going to be important to him but maybe for this at least give him a little space. It's great that you ant to communicate and all but at the rate your going you aren't even taking his interests into mind. After he finishes the game, all will be well, but, for now, just deal with it.

I was in a long distance relationship where we HAD to talk on the phone because we lived three hours away and there would be times where we had fights and arguments that we spent hours and hours on the phone trying to work out, then the weekend would come, we'd actually SEE each other and everything we had chatted about on the phone meant nothing because we felt different being in each other's presence. Point being, maybe you should respect that your boyfriend would rather TALK to you IN PERson, that gab away for hours.Its too easy for things to be fake that way.

I've known people who HATED talking on the phone. Also, maybe he just wants some me time? Try to find other ways to communicate with him? You're also young (under eighteen), but if you weren't I'd suggest going over to his house to surprise him.

Yes it's possible he cares more about the game than you, but I don't think this is the case.
