About 7 months ago I think, I was in 12th grade and our music major was presenting the major to 9th graders who think about joining the next year.

When the presentation was over usually 9th graders with their parents go to some of the 12th graders to ask some questions.
This girl in 9th grade (who ended up joining this year by the way) approached me with her mother they asked some questions, we talked for over 15 minutes.

At one point during that time I was smiling a lot and the girl just out of nowhere said "You have really good looking teeth". I still think to this day that was the most genuine compliment I ever recieved about my physical appearance. It also meant a lot to me because I had really bad teeth for years and my dentist worked for about 9 years to fix them.

I think this explaines pretty well how often I get complimented, and how something so small can create such a strong memory.

If you want to capture someone's attention, compliment them. But really, actually, geniunely compliment them.

I still remember two years back when a girl said I was handsome. Being called handsome from someone other than your mother and grandmother, I was surprised. Not to mention, I've been called ugly on multiple occasions throughout school, from different people, campuses, even teachers. The majority of my family, since my early childhood, says I'm so ugly it looks like I have down-syndrome. Most girls decline to date me because, in their words: Although I have the personality down, my looks don't match to their standards.

When this girl said I was handsome, I said thanks. (I'm not the type of guy to start falling for a girl because of one compliment. So, nothing happened pass that.) Although the girl and I went our separate ways since then, I still can't help but remember that compliment. It makes me wonder if other girls see me that way. (Nah!)

I know this may sound cheesy, but I truly believe that when you're surrounded by negative comments, the positive ones become all the more important as they usually are the most sincere of compliments and usually aren't just someone trying to butter you up for whatever reason
So keep those compliments dear to you and let them shield you from the negativity people may throw your way!

Every day! At least once a day :)
However, I'm not complimented on superficial things such as my looks or appearance; that rarely, if ever, happens.

I'm mostly complimented on my intelligence, how helpful I am, a skill I am good at, things of that matter. It's probably not what most people think of when they say they're complimented, but anyone someone praises my work ethic or something I did right? I'll take it!

I wear outfits that are kind of out there, so it catches people’s attention, and they compliment me... usually happens whenever I go out. And that fact that I have long legs draws their eyes in even more. Our conversations go like this:


Them: “Damn girl look at you! Love that outfit!”


Me: “Thanks, this is my grandma’s shirt.”


Them: “really? You should be a model with those long legs.”


Me: “Haha, I’m not photogenic though, and I have a little stomach”


Them: “Pshhh that’s ridiculous. All I see is your ribcage.”


Just because I dress nice and I am tall doesn’t automatically make me skinny and suitable for modeling :)

Work-wise (professionalism, punctuality, attention to detail, that sort of thing)... probably once a week (pre-COVID).

Compliments about my looks, or fashion sense, or anything outside of work, I almost never hear them. Even girls that were "girlfriends" didn't compliment me much when we dated - maybe twice, if that.

I do compliments if I feel "moved" to speak about it and it's honest.

For a while, I started to avoid giving compliments because any innocent two second compliment I made was turned into something horrible; I just got tired of being treated like a weirdo because a woman can't handle "I like your glasses" or "That's a cool pendant" without it offending her somehow or making her grossed out. But then I figured, that's THEIR hangup, not mine. I'd rather be honest and kind and try to make someone's day maybe just a little better from time to time, so I started going back to being more open about giving them.

I introduced a game to my family one Thanksgiving where you go around the table and either give a complement to someone, or ask for someone to give you a compliment. Almost every time I’ve ever played the game people always end up giving compliments I never ask him for them. When it was my cousin’s turn he decided to give me a complement: “I admire how brave you are.”

@Vencam no problem, I stole the game myself and it's a very wonderful game to play especially with a group that knows each other. Good also for work meetings, it is amazing how the appreciation starts to flow and you realize all the things people do not say that they are feeling good things.

Last year with the last girl I dated my green eyes will get me a bunch of compliments during middle school and High School after that not so much. Last girl to compliment my eyes was a cashier girl for Wendy's back in 2012 gave me a smile and and a wave goodbye when I left went back a week later didn't see her and never went back.
