What's the creepiest object you own?

Asking this question after talking about my aunt's vintage mannequin.

The creepiest items I own - or better, my wife owns in her collection - are a shrunken head (which I believe to be fake) that she bought in some shop; and a jawless human skull, which I believe to be true because I saw where she found it. Plus assorted animal bones and a few embalmed ones.

I've got a Mosin Nagant M91/30 rifle, chambered in 7.62x54R.

What's peculiar about this rifle is the markings on it- the armory that manufactured it, the year it was made, and the theatre stamp on the stock- I can confirm that this weapon was present during the battle of Stalingrad.

I'm of the strong belief that at one point in time, this rifle was not only deployed but actively took at least one person's life. It's a sobering thought, 80 years ago this rifle was pointed at someone else. The person holding it was young, cold, and probably terrified. Angry. Did they pull the trigger out of hatred? Was it personal? What it survival, him thinking that letting this other cold, scared, hungry man live meant that he could die in the next minute? If not him, maybe the man next to him? In the end it didn't matter. The trigger was squeezed, the bolt was cycled, and life moved on for all but one.

Was the original soldier then killed later on, and this rifle picked up by another? How many cycles has it seen, it's new owner taking a life, only to have his taken in return? How much blood has been spilled on the bayonet, to be wiped away with a dirty cloth. How much blood has soaked into this old wood, drying and fading as generations of hands hold it and take it apart and put it back together, their life buffing away those which lost theirs.

How many hands has it passed through, how much life has it taken? To be a veteran of at least one war but likely others, putting food on the table or settling disputes, traded and sold and bought, making its way across countries and nations, illegal border crossings and vague manifest declarations, to end up in my hands here in the Midwest of America. It now sits in the corner of my safe, resting in the dark. Retired, it's targets are paper and cardboard, and I clean it with respect and diligence as many did before.

If it could talk, I am sure there is much I could learn from it.

@Exterminatore ah that's an Izhevesk rifle. Izzys have the best actions. Do the serial numbers match? And to check its theatre, you'll need the year that's under the hammer and sickle, plus see if there's a stamp on the right side of the stock about halfway between the grip and the buttplate. Look for a square about half an inch wide, with a diagonal line running from one corner to the other.

@Sixgunsound 15 years ago, the were $50. Now you'll have trouble finding one under $250, and as far as WW2 rifles, they're about the cheapest you can get.

I've had my eye on an SKS for a bit now but you can't by a semi-auto in my state without a pistol permit endorsement now. I'd also be in the market for a new safe, so the price of the rifle is not the problem😅

I also cannot believe we now have to have a license just to have any kind of automatic rifle. That is beyond outrageous. Hopefully that will be challenged in the state Supreme Court and stuck down.

I don't own anything creepy. I hate creepy.

I got rid of a rug (which I now regret doing) because when I was seriously depressed, it reminded me of what I had lost (my home) and the abstract shapes in it with bits of red suddenly looked like something evil with red eyes. (And my grey Persian was leaving hair all over it and I was tired of vacuuming it. But mostly the other two things.) That's how much I don't like creepy. (Big mistake, though. I am stupid for getting rid of it. It did remind me of my house, but I still want it anyway.)

A necklace made of bone. Not just any type of bone, it's made of HUMAN bone. It was something I was gifted by a friend's relative years ago. It's Native. I'm not going to tell anyone which tribe because Native Americans face enough discrimination & harassment in N America what with the stealing of their land, the residential schools, having whites beating on them even police forces dragging them out to the wilds to freeze to death or hospitals ignoring them in the waiting room until they keel over.

Wow! Those are creepy things! I don't have anything quite as creepy as a head or a skull but I have an elk's tooth that some people may consider to be creepy. My Das likes to hunt and one season he went hunting for elk. He said elk have two teeth that are made of ivory and they're considered to be something that brings luck. He had a jewler make a gold cap for both of his elk's teeth and strung each on a leather strap. He gave one to me and one to my sister for luck. 😊

I bought an antique wall mirror that used to be hung inside the famed Winchester Mystery house.

Initially, nobody would ever think it looks creepy because it really doesn't look creepy.

However, every-now-and-then, it does give us an uneasy vibe.

Personally I don't have anything creepy myself, but my parents have these. There's a few more busts around the house and when I was a kid the faces always creeped me the fuck out especially when it was dark. As it was an unnerving face staring at you dimly lit. I always felt the eyes were following me as a kid lol. Now when I can't help but chuckle and remember the nostalgia.

The creepiest thing I own is a Glock 19 9mm semi-automatic pistol, mainly because it is capable of ending somebody's life. I have a firearms license and I've had the proper training, I'm actually a pretty good shot.
