Silly question! Do you sanitize your plunger after use?

So today the 5-year-old thought it was a good idea to flush a plastic wrapper in the toilet instead of walking the few extra steps to the kitchen trash can and throwing it out there where it belongs.

So I whipped out the handy dandy plunger and got to correcting the issue. After I was done I proceeded to spray bleach and soak it with lemon scented disinfectant cleaner.

I let it sit and soak for a few minutes then came back and rinsed it off it was then that I stopped and I pondered 🤔

Is this the norm or am I being overly obsessive?

No one ever taught me to do this it's just something I've always done since I was 18 and had my own place.

Nope, I never sanitize the plunger, but I always learned to never use bleach with any other chemical, but I could be wrong. Some quick tips every time that the toilet gets clogged I plunge it real fast for 5 minutes and once it makes a certain sound then I know that it's open and not clogged anymore. Also, if the water is low in the toilet from being clogged take a bucket of water and throw it down the toilet, and then I plunged it quickly so once it gives me a certain sound then I know it's open.

Yes you shouldn't mess the cleaners. As I said I'm obsessive and I meant it. I spray with bleach wash it off spraying with hot water and then hit it up with the lemon scent and the rinse it again.

I don't beyonds a rinse (mostly because I've almost never had to use it so it's not something I think about) but that lowkey sounds like a good idea just in terms of like, general cleanliness.

I immediately rinse it with water. Chemical sanitizer will make the rubber degrade more quickly.

I don't, but i confess your way is better. At my work we have a plunger holder and I think someone at work puts some bleach in there and empties it every once in a while. I don't think about it or do anything with it. I do wash my hands every time i use it, though.

I thoroughly rinse plungers in very hot water after their use.

I haven't suffered because of not disinfecting them to a greater extent, but you do you if it makes you feel better about it.

i don't but i probably should huh? usually just rinse it thoroughly but seems smart to spray it with a health dose of disinfectant considering it's usually diving head first into a bowl of poo

After it has done its job I flush fresh water into the toilet and slosh the plunger in that to clean it as much as needed.

I rinse it off a few times in the toilet, clean the toilet afterwards and then soak the plunger in water with a little bleach.

Other than rinsing it off with clean water, I don't sanitize my plunger. If it gets too decrepit, then I'll toss it out and get a new one.

No I just dry it off with toilet paper and put it on a toilet paper square so the inside doesn’t get on the floor
