2.5K opinions shared on Other topic. Texting is great for short simple questions and answers or sending photos. But I HATE conversations via text. It's tedious. Plus there are other drawbacks. By the time you write a reply, they may say something else or ask another question. And text can be misinterpreted because you can't see their face or hear their vocal inflections.
I much prefer phone conversations because they are true, back and forth, conversations. You can hear vocal inflections and laughter. They are personal. I like hearing a voice.
Text is about as personal as carrying on a conversation via mail or telegraph.
When it comes down to it, I'd rather do email than text. With email you can type on a keyboard and write out complex thoughts.10 Reply

Texting, always texting. Unless it's a medical emergency, or you're family-
Don't call me. I probably won't answer, lol. I'm just never been much of a phone person: I blame my mom for raising us in a house without a phone (she wasn't a fan of them either).
Unfortunately, my job requires me to communicate on the phone throughout the day, so by the time I get off work, I don't even want to look at a phone, much less talk on one.
That and texting allows me to "think before I speak." I can write out my thoughts and feelings without saying something stupid- something some people really could benefit from.

@Cynicaldreamer The job I had over ten years ago... The phone rang on the average every minute. Trust me, by the time my workday ended I didn't want anything to do with a phone. I can relate.

@ArrowheadSW Finally, someone else that understands!
That's me as well: I work in a hospital- with doctors mind you, and they are VERY big on using phones, particularly texting, to communicate. The phone barely stops ringing in my department, and if they can't find you- they will page you overhead and find you!
So unlike most people, I'm ready to detach myself from the phone after work. - 1 y
@Cynicaldreamer That former job was most definitely a medical job also. When I ditched that job, they rotated over 12 people there to try to fill my position. The one who finally stayed pushed for reform. It was such a bullshit job.

I prefer text messages because you have a written record of everything that was said so you're less likely to forget the things they say to you. Also it's easier to share links and pictures if you text instead of trying to remember everything spoken in a verbal conversation. It's also easier to surf the internet to get information in the midst of your conversation.

It doesn't require an immediate answer.
If I need to know something now then a call, or if a subject needs to be discussed then it is faster and way easier by phone.

30 Reply626 opinions shared on Other topic. I Like both. And who it is I'm talking to. And what we are talking about. There are some conversations where you want to hear that energy of the voice that tone so on the phone's just way better

Talking on the phone… It’s more personal, you can have your hands free to do other things while you are talking..

I prefer texting and email. Both are non intrusive, the receiver can read them when they want. Phone requires an instant response, and that often interrupts.

I like talking on the phone because texting can lead to so much misunderstandings. Depending upon how the other person is thinking they can think you are giving them attitude when really your not.

I used to prefer texting until my boyfriend brought me out of that and now I like talking on the phone more at least when it comes to him.

Talking on the phone if it’s a friend, texting if it’s with someone I’m not close with
