Why did my ex block me on FB when we weren't even friends?

I noticed my ex recently blocked me on FB. We have been broken up for almost a year and I have absolutely zero desire to hear from him ever again. I actually totally forgot about him until I had a dream about him where I couldn’t remember his name (lol) so I looked him up on fb, out of curiosity and noticed I couldn’t open his page. We were together for 4 years and shared many friends so it was easy to find out whether he deleted his profile or whether I was blocked.

Now, to clarify... it doesn’t bother me one bit, if anything I find it quite funny. We haven’t spoken nor seen each other for months. He broke up with me, by the way, and soon after I realized what a horrible person he has been the whole time and the horrible things he has done, and wanted nothing to do with him ever after. My mind is also currently occupied with a different guy, and I am happy with my life.

Maybe I just want to know that karma came back to bite him in the **** lol. But really, what’s the point of blocking me when we were not even fb friends in the first place and after such a long time?

He showed up on my online list in messenger AGAIN, which means he unblocked me already. Did not last long. Maybe was hoping I’d notice?

I would guess he blocked you so that you're unable to see his profile. I mean, you have searched him up, regardless of the reason, you were still looking for his profile.
Maybe he doesn't want you seeing his updated profile pictures or cover photo?
It does seem like you're a little bothered though as you have gone to the effort to ask people's opinions on the matter. If like you said, you're not even remotely bothered or interested then I would just let it go over your head and not worry about it.

Not bothered per se, certainly not in that "must see what he is doing at all cost" way. However, we have been together for 4 years and I think it is normal to be curious about a person you considered to be your best friend and lover for so long. I am by no means stalking him, just had a dream about him and decided to look him up without the intention of writing to him or anything of sorts. Also, everything on our profiles is private, so I cannot see his feed and nor can he see mine. I should add that he broke up with me, in not a very nice way, and as shallow as it sounds, maybe I was hoping this was his way of "trying to move on but unsuccessfully" after I have moved on and stopped hurting. What can I say, I am just a human.

I understand the want to look at his profile, I was with my ex partner for 6 years and I would definitely look up his profile if he had Facebook. We are still friends though so I guess it's different.
Also, if he split up with you in a nasty way then it's only normal to want him to still be feeling guilt over that or sadness that he chucked your relationship away. I'm no expert but it doesn't sound like that to me, just that he's trying to move on. Sorry. Hope I've helped some way though.

Maybe he was looking at your profile so he blocked it so he wouldn't look at it. I've done that with ex lovers.

yeah I have done that too! even with him right after we broke up, I told him I needed to block him in order to get him out of my mind and not see his posts etc. he seemed to be fine with it. eventually I moved on so I unblocked him and seeing his facebook didn't phase me at all. that was a long time ago. but now all of a sudden he seems to be bothered by it. that is why I find it weird

he blocked you after a long period of time, which means he considered facebook a door that was left open for you to see how awesome his life was after he broke up with you, but lately he is desperate and still thinks that you check his facebook but what you find on his page doesn"t make you jealous or eager to contact him so he escalates and blocks you so that you go and ask him why he did so instead of asking us here ;)

funny thing I actually bumped into him once when I was out with my guy friend. he was sitting in a bar with a girl whom I know. strangely enough, I literally felt nothing... and I didn't react in any way. He was probably expecting a reaction of some kind which never came lol. this sounds logical to me, first he hides everything, and then when that is not met with any reaction, he goes for blocking me. well there is still no reaction from me so I wonder what's it gonna be next time? :-D

This is probably his way of moving on. He doesn't want a constant reminder that you liked this post or that video. It just makes him remember things so he would rather block you and not think about you.

I never did that. We weren't friends on fb, and I never really "like" anything that people post. We also haven't been in touch for months. Just seems random to me to do it after such a long time.

Well I don't know maybe he doesn't want you seeing his profile or pics. There really is no way of knowing unless you ask him but that isn't the best of ideas lol

Just adding to the answer since you updated. He probably just thought that it isn't that big of a deal and unblocked you. Some people do things that are hard to understand, but try not to over think it.

I really do appreciate your suggestion. I am sorry if I came of as harsh in my reply, it is just always the only thing people say - if you don't care you shouldn't be doing that... That would be nice, in an ideal universe. However, we are people and these rules just do not apply in real life. :-D

Of course you are not going to check random people's profiles. However, this guy was a huge part of my life for a very long time, and I came to terms with the fact that while I may not have romantic feelings for him anymore, there will always be the memory and the idea of him I will never forget. So in some way, you are right. I do care, however it is very platonic.

The only way to get it to stop is to add them (probably a no go) or block them. If you hit ignore FB just waits a month and asks again.
