What do you think about Netflix's new "5-second" rule?

Apparently, in order to combat sexual harassment, Netflix has implemented a system, whereby people looking at each for longer than 5-seconds can now be reported as sexual harassers. Yup, we're going there. What are your thoughts on this? In my opinion, if every we wanted to live in a society where the sexes willingly self-segregate, there is no better way to do so than to institute rules that literally criminalize social interactions.  You can thank the #metoo movement for this insanity. Honestly, if this becomes common place, expect men to just... not date women anymore.

You know, when a bunch of rags that generally only support one side of the ideological divide all report the same thing within a few days of one another... you gotta ask yourself if it's actually true. Of, if true, did it really happen like they say?

In this case, if you go read the original article in The Sun, you'll notice the five second things isn't an actual rule. It's just considered "creepy". Whether or not that can be used as justification for a sexual harassment claim is ambiguous.

This whole sexual harassment thing is bullshit. It’s insulting and discrediting to the people who have ACTUALLY been harassed or assaulted. It makes their stories less impactful. I think people who make false claims that we are seeing so many of now should be jailed for a small amount of time and fined.

I wonder how they would even execute such a rule. Are they gonna hire "counters" on set who count the seconds any of the crew members look at other members? That's gonna be a touch job considering they too can only look at everyone for 5 seconds tops.

Nope. Not one bit. This is what you get when everybody goes overboard and thinks any social interaction equates to sexual harassment or an "Unwanted Advance."

Seriously I have seen women post online using the MeToo crap complaining about how some guy said they liked her and asked her out. One I recall said she was so uncomfortable with this "Unwanted Advance" that she felt it was harassment and had to share her story with the internet.

How about just saying "No thanks, I am not interested in you or being in a relationship right now."? It's always awkward turning someone down because you don't want to upset them... But guess what? That's called socialising and interacting with other human beings, not rape or molestation ffs.

If you're too afraid of upsetting someone and you're too afraid to tell someone how you feel about them due to being branded a sleazy dirt bag pervert, then nobody will want to talk or interact with anybody.

But here we are.

You now can't look at someone for more than 5 seconds without being branded a sleazy perv.

And I bet you anything this rule for Netflix employees will be heavily enforced against male employees but overlooked when it comes to women staring at guys for too long.

Maybe Islam had it right all along with the burkas and face veils cuz that seems to be where society is now heading. Maybe both men and women should simply wrap ourselves up from head to toe so we can't tell what gender we are when out and about. Maybe we should also get voice altering devices so we all sound the same when we talk. We wouldn't want to have people say we have a sexy voice or anything.

Hell, let's just avoid all social and public interaction with one another except through text based messaging devices strapped to our foreheads for others to read. Can't take any chances ya know. Wouldn't want anybody to get offended by interacting with another. Just to be even safer, let's make sure our text based messaging devices are restricted to predetermined sets of responses selected as being not offensive to anybody and we can't make our own messages.

I don't recall this crap being an issue until social media took over and most people forgot how to interact with one another. Everything now a days offends someone for some reason or another.

There's so much of it these days and it's complete bullsh*t.

For example, This isn't the first time a 5 second rule has been touted. I've seen at least 3 other reports of companies incapable of sane policies.

Also, consider other things that could be discrimination that get ignored. Such as the ratio of boys to girls diagnosed with ADHD. For every girl diagnosed, between 5 and 7 boys are. The reason is that the boys diagnosed are prone to fidgeting, lack of "concentration" levels for extended periods of time and basically behaving like boys...

Sexual harassment is a serious topic. Rules like this actually trivialise it. They treat men as being no better than a dog in heat. That is just as sexist as telling them how long they may look in the direction of a colleague before it's "offensive".

The #metoo movement started with good motives, but it has become a parody of itself. People now use it in vehement anti-male sexist rants.

Hell no, I've had a lady accuse me of harassing her when I was literally staring at a sign next to her, I didn't even notice her existence yet it was S. H. to her. First off, though a majority won't, there are still plenty of women who are complete idiots who will mistake what a guy is doing (which is circumstantial) and get salty/accusatory. Secondly, there are others who are just insidious and mean who would happily lie and use this as an excuse to harm someone with little to no reason (Ex: the guy she liked politely said he did not want to date her, thus he got fired for S. H.) and for something like that, there is a huge amount of difficulty with proving the truth of the matter.

Just because someone is staring in your direction doesn't mean they're staring AT YOU. I space out a lot because I'm usually thinking and sometimes it's while I'm "looking" at someone. And sometimes the staring isn't even malicious in the workplace. It could just be some guy thinking to himself like "wow. She's attractive. What can I say to get her attention?" And not "how can I blackmail her into getting in bed with me?"

Are you for real? I get it if it’s a lingering stare and he licks his lips and winks, but simply looking is not enough to be considered sexual harassment. I guess if he’s staring at her boobs and won’t stop it could be. But even so it’s kinda hard not to notice if a woman is wearing a low cut dress. I think what's important to remember here is that Netflix is a private business and it is fully within their right to implement whatever policies they see fit, whether they seem sensible or not.
I think it's unlikely that this would be popular or successful in any way so there is really no need to worry about this kind of regulation spreading to other places. I also think it's important to not assume an outcome such as the criminalization of social interactions like you say to be realistic on a large societal level based on the actions of an outlier such as Netflix.

Go to the Middle East, where women are forced into marriage, that includes 8yr old girls to 60yr old men, and where women must have "female circumcisions", where their clitorises are removed, obviously causing them to gain no pleasure from sexual activities.
