Guys, if your girlfriend wanted breast reduction surgery (and she qualified), would you support her decision?

I have 36DD breasts. I actually just got measured again today, and even though I've lost 15lbs. since my last measurement in the summer, I'm actually a 36DDD. However, I can still fit DD depending on where I get it.

I'm only 29. I haven't had any children yet, either. But I'm also only 5'3. I want to feel attractive, and my breasts do not make me feel that way because of their size.

The problem, though, is my boyfriend likes how large they are. I asked him if he'd care if they were smaller, and he said he would. He wouldn't leave me or anything, but he did say that really enjoyed their size. What he doesn't know is that I asked him because I've been considering breast reduction surgery.

I technically qualify, and I want to meet with a plastic surgeon. My boyfriend doesn't know, though. Would you support your girlfriend if she wanted to have breast reduction surgery?

Yes, I would support her decision.

Inthink I can be of help here. I've done some worked in theatre for 30+ years, and costuming is a big part of that. Women's bodies are astoundingly diverse, and you learn that one set of measurements can mean entirely things from person to person.

Your question is a profound one. It goes beyond what's attractive, what your think is attractive, and what your boyfriend likes. This is a bigger issue.

Boyfriends and even husbands come and go... it's sad, but true. He doesn't get a say in this.

This is the body that YOU will be driving around for the next sixty+ years or so. I have know so many women who have suffered terrible back problems because their bodies were weighted down with more weight in that position than their bodies could endure. That's been the reason most women I know have had reduction surgery have had it done.

I have also known women who've had reductions who've put on weight, sometimes after pregnancies, whonjust gained additional weight in the same place.

You're twenty nine. If I were you, I'd consider waiting until after you've had your children, and then have it taken care of. That way, you can have that reduction when you don't have to guess what you will have to live with for most of your life.

In the interim, building up your pectoral neck, abdominal and back muscles can save you from some of the effects of carrying that extra weight up front.

One last thought.

Scarring can be an issue. Some people tend to get keloid scarring, but even if you don't, it's something you have to live with. My body's been scarred up from some major surgeries involving rebuilding muscle, removing and reacting skin, and respecting intestine... your resultant scarring us something you must consider.

Try to find someone who has had the operation. If you don't know anyone, your doctor would be happy to introduce you to someone for an office visit together.

Good luck. Whatever you do, you'll be fine. Sometimes, there's no bad choice to make... only different options.

I knew a woman who had that done. She was like you - but 38DDD and they were VERY difficult for her to deal with. They caused her back problems, finding a bra that fit was near impossible and the ones she did find, cost a ton of money. I won't even get into the clothing issues or how much they interfered with her simply moving around!

She had the surgery done and reduced them to a "C" size. They took out roughly 2.5lbs from each side. Afterward, they were much easier for her to deal with. On top of that, they were very firm - she called them her new "teenage tits", because although she wore a bra (far more comfortable for her), she didn't need to because her boobs were so tight and firm. She loved being in her late 30's and no longer had huge floppy boobs. I was fortunate to get to see them before and after. I could tell she was so much happier afterward. Personally, I thought they were better afterward!

This situation involves YOUR body and how well you function. If your boyfriend doesn't support you, I guarantee there are 10,000 other guys who would in an nanosecond. He needs to quit thinking with the "little" head and realize this isn't about him.

18 months ago I underwent having a breast reduction, reducing me from a 34KK to a 34DD, and my husband couldn't have been more caring and sympathetic.
A few months after that we got married, and I'm actually due to give birth to our first child in three days time.
You need to get it through to your boyfriend that you're doing this for yourself, to relieve all the back, neck and shoulder pains, and so improving your wellbeing and quality of life.

That is understandable, because 34KK is really over-sized. I'm happy with you having an understanding husband because over-sized breasts gives you so much trouble. I cannot understand those wanting to reduce from D to B. I think they mostly do it out of insecurity about themselves and because of fashion or some pornographic statistics tells them, that B is now more attractive because males search for it more than big-sizes.

Make sure you lose all the weight you want to before you do it. I know someone who did the surgery before that and was disappointed. A lot times women start to suffer pain over time. Can breast reduction possibly cause damage to the milk ducts. If so you might want to wait until after you have children.

This is a complicated Q. If I am being perfectly honest and selfish, I would support (pun intended) my GFs decision to have a breast reduction, because I love her. However, I cannot tell a lie, it would greatly sadden me, because your size is PERFECT! I would try to hide my disappointment as best I could and be positive for her. But deep down, I would be sad.

That said, it is YOUR body. You MUST do what is RIGHT for you.

Also I know a girl who had a reduction and they were STILL pretty SPECTACULAR! So it depends how small you make them!

Yes, I'm pretty sure any guy that's in a relationship that genuinely cares about their girlfriend would. Just mention it to your boyfriend and on a personal level he'll probably feel a bit disappointed if he likes them a lot, but for you he'll probably be happy if he knows you want it badly.

If your guy is a keeper, he'll adore you anyway (you've already won him over).
Having large breasts on a small frame is impractical (clothes), and gets you the wrong attention (from both sexes).

If she first tried to naturally reduce her breast size with diet and exercise. But that did not seem to work for her.

Either by improving her back/chest/arm and shoulder muscles. Or just flat out reduces her size.

Then yes I would support her in getting them reduced medically. If all other options failed.

If you are doing it for cosmetic reasons, you should know that literally everyone finds your current size attractive. I would have a really hard time supporting you if you were doing it unnecessarily. Guys find them sexy, women like how they fill clothes out. You have the larger end of the perfect breasts. If you are doing it for health reasons (like back pain), then I would totally support you.

It’s cosmetics but I also have lower back pain and shoulder pain. My doctor said it could help with that but he recommended I try a chiropractor first. I have, and I still hurt unfortunately. Not as much, but it’s still there. I’d only want to go to a C cup, but I really hate being so top heavy.

DD down to a C seems like a huge jump. Why not a D? I find it so fascinating how some women have even bigger boobs than your's, and don't have any pain at all, and yet women with smaller boobs than your's will have back aches... In any case, I think that if you feel that your breast ensmallment will improve your quality of life, then you should at least look into it.

I actually asked my doctor that, and he said it was mostly my height working against me. He said usually taller women within the same weight range and breast size will experience less back and shoulder problems than shorter women. He said he thought that even if I was 2-3 inches taller, I wouldn't have nearly as much pain as I do now.

I only don't want a D because even then I felt subconscious. I felt most normal and comfortable at a C.

Hmm... I know absolutely nothing about the costs associated with a breast reduction surgery, but wouldn't losing all that tissue at once take some getting used to? Just intuitively, I would have thought that a breast reduction is something that you would want to do in steps. Like I said though, I know nothing about anything in this subject.

She was maybe mislead by some "friends" or general opinion, that big boobs are not sexy (read: attractive to men) anymore. It changes over time, what is sexy in big boobs. Like for example #DollyBuster or #PamelaAnderson have both big boobs and were considered sexy at their time.

And I do love any natural boobs, not changed by human but with limits for sure, D is maximum.

@roland77 I’m just used to seeing girls do the opposite. My ex girlfriend got a breast enlargement a few months after we split. I almost didn't recognize her in the gym (she gained weight too). She didn’t need it and she started plastering makeup on to look like a complete whore. I was actually happy to see that because she looked way less attractive.

In most cases there are collateral issues with posture and back/spine problems or ability to do certain exercises, etc. so yeah I think he should care about you're well being firstly. If you're ok with the procedure and risks involved he should be supportive.
If it would be an augmentation for estetic purposes, I wouldn't think so, but for health issues I would understand.

@Lila29 based on them removing a natural part of their body that is ATTRACTIVE. Plus is this girl thin or she chubby? If she hasn't lost the weight first she's just being a lazy oaf. I know a girl who had Ds when thin but now she's fat and they are too big and she got boob reduction instead of just losing the weight. Now she was able to lose the weight a few years later and she's flat chested and hated it and can't afford a boob job so she's decided to become fat again. Whatever this is not something id ever deal with. Id prefer to just have a girlfriend i can play with her boobs and thats that.

1st you should say why u need to reduce them:
U have a physical issues related to this size, problems in breathing while sleeping/ problem in ur spine or overweight issues in this case I can support your idea.

I had a friend who recently had breast reduction surgery with about the same size and height as you! She says her quality life has improved so much since getting the surgery done. She is a lot happier, and is better able to do what she wants and her back hurts a lot less. I would say it's all your choice. Your boyfriend will still be there for you, and it's not really his place to make that decision for you anyway. If I were him, yes i would totally support!
