I am uncomfortable with eye contact or a lot of eye contact because from a young age I was taught it was disrespectful by my elders. Only men, women of any age was fine.
Direct eye contact is important. Anyone scared of it has issues, unless your demeanor is like the pic above, mean and squinting. You can smile with your eyes, as they say. But it’s important always to keep direct contact when talking to people.
I do it if someone is irritating and I an trying to push past them... It’s also fun to do to just mess with people, like standing in an elevator by the door and turning around to fave people. They never know how to respond.
I try to make eye contact with people, but conversation makes that difficult. I have a tendency to hear what was said incorrectly, so I usually end up watching people talk so I can figure out what was ACTUALLY said.

You should never take up more than 20-30 seconds of eye contact, you should do it but interchange it with looking around or at the lips or forehead
