How can you tell if a friend has a crush/feelings for you after making out?

I’m very close with this guy friend. We are super chilled around each other and we enjoy each other’s company very much. So last weekend after all our friends left his house, he asked me why did I stay and then if I wanted to hook up with him. We just made out but he would keep calling me gorgeous and sexy. At the end he said it was a mistake cause we’re friends and he knows I want a relationship. He also thinks I just got with him because I had no more options. But he kept complimenting my personality and calling me gorgeous. Next day we hanged out again as a group and me and him kept acting the exact same way we did before getting involved.

I don’t like him more than just a friend tho but I’m afraid he’s just saying these things as an excuse to retreat cause he might have caught feelings for me.
