Please compare infatuation vs love for a person?

When a person cheats, man or woman, could it be infatuation even if it was on and off for over a year?
My girlfriend cheated (we have 1 kid together and it’s mine as I did a dna test, even though she cheated after having our kid) on me a few years ago and we have worked it out. She said it was in and off with a guy for about 2 years. It was on for a few months and then off for a few months. Her reason for cheating was I was never around, I didn’t show her any attention or affection. She said the other man did show her attention and affection. She said “it was more like an infatuation but never love him. He didn’t capture my heart but he capture my attention “
