Love. Real or overhyped feelings of something else?

Is love really real or is it just like, lust, respect, desire, want, need… Let’s be frank for just a moment. What is so special about love? Is it a unique feeling or an amalgamation of multiple feelings or just a few feelings brought to a boil?

Let’s consider love beyond this. How can a person LOVE and not be IN LOVE? It’s funny how many put so much value into love for marriage but when divorce comes they still claim to LOVE one another but are unable to stand one another. How can some parents LOVE their children while some leave their babies in trash bags in trash cans? Can love at first sight exist? If so how can you tell between love and lust?

I think love is real, but only when you don't get up and leave because someone made a mistake. If you love someone when everything is great, it's so fairytale like. When something like your relationship is being threatened, you dont hold it against your partner that it's happening because they did or didn't do something. You work like a team to help each other and I don't think anything should get in the way and make you fight over things that don't have control. You don't have to be perfect but you should be honest at some point, either it's you who is sabotaging the chance of progression or deepen trust because you let something go to save time but it creeped into your view of your partner as a whole, or your partner is thinking of you in that way. If you disagree, it does not have to be an ultimatum or expectations keep going up with no support or realistic goal setting. When you're single, or alone, you face all the same challenges. You are being too hard on yourself or you are not trying to succeed you want to stay comfortable and blind to what you're doing. The only difference is you live in your head, or you live with another human who can get you out of your head if you listen.

Of course love is real and it is very possible to love someone and not be in love with them (think family members save your spouse).

I have been with my wife for 20 years now and her and I will be the first to tell you that we will always love each other, but we don't always like each other. There are just going to be things that we do that is going to piss the other one off and that’s ok. For those who still love the other but still end in divorce, those differences were just too big to overcome.

Love at first sight is real too. It happened with me when I saw my wife. Yes, lust had a part to do with that, but it was also just this overwhelming feeling of being drawn to her. I knew in that moment I needed and wanted to be with her.

Love isn’t real, otherwise people wouldn’t feel as though they could have multiple partners and claim to feel love for all of them while claiming to have real love for their original partner. That’s not love, that is fake love, even towards their original partner.


Love isn’t even worth so of the pain it causes. I wish people could just stay single. Don’t date don’t have relationships without getting depressed. Just have friends! Hang out often and play video games or go to a movie or something. Play games board games if that’s what you like to do. Go to the gym or go get your nails done idgaf just stop doing shit that will get you hurt in the long run. Life is too short to struggle through it in pain

I think “love” has to do with more then just dating like children and family and pets and such.

When people think of love the first thing they think of is dating, marriage and sex. The first thing people think of isn’t their family, friends and pets unless you’re into beastality or incest.

Lust is a feeling of, almost, uncontrollable desire. You want to be around them all the time, sexual desire, they're pretty perfect, etc. Loving someone is more than that. There's a certain amount of selflessness. You care for and accept the other person for who they are, which will impact your behavior. Being in love has the components of loving someone, while adding romantic and/or sexual attraction.

Love at first sight doesn't exist in most cases, but it can for those who naturally feel genuine love towards strangers (even though that love is one-sided.)
