An intruding mother?

I have been dating this guy for the past 4 months. It’s gotten serious to say the least. I really do love him, and vice versa. He’s met my parents, I’ve met his, and our families seem to get along. But randomly, my mom has told me to break up with him. She said that I needed to end this relationship or she’ll make things ugly. Those were her exact words. I honestly don’t know what to do. She gave no details to why I should. If I do break up with him, he’ll want an explanation of why, I’ll tell him, then he’ll hate my mother. If I don’t leave him, my mom will try her best to keep me on lockdown away from him. It’s not like we hide our relationship from the public, so it’d be hard to try that now. I don’t want to cause a rift between my relationships that I already have.

That’s pretty weird that she gave no explanation. It’s good to respect your parents, but it’s ultimately your decision. She’s giving you the choice to either A. break up, or B. she will make it awful.


There’s no winning in this situation. You mentioned that your boyfriend will hate your mom. I think either way, he will dislike what she’s making you decide to do.


You should really sit down with her in a calm manner and try to ask her why the sudden change of heart. Why she’s making you break up with him.

Tell her that you'll be possibly more inclined to break up with him if she becomes a more reasonable person and fills you in on things.
