What does the word "Submissive" in a relationship means to you?

For men, what does it mean for a woman to be submissive? And for Women, what does being submissive to a man mean to you? Do you believe it's needed to make a longterm serious relationship or marriage work?

To me, the only "submissive" I'll be in a relationship is in the kinky way.

Meaning in sex, one partner is "dominant" the other is "submissive" - so the dominant takes control of the scene while the submissive relinquishes it. However, it is entirely contained within the scene, and boundaries are known and respected. The domme is responsible for her actions and also the experience of the sub, who (in my case) may become less responsive when in sub-space (a sort of altered state of mind).

I don't believe in "dominant partner" or "submissive partner" in the day to day aspects of a relationship. That's an equal thing. Equal or I'm moving on.

A relationship can be equal - it just takes effort.

I'm also not gonna be dating men, so even if your logic was right, I don't have to worry about that. I'll be dating ladies, and we'll have a better chance at equality according to your logic.

I can definitely see how that may come off. But I asked the question because of talks about the word submissive an what it means to each group. Both parties in a healthy relationship are obviously submissive to each other in different ways.

I think one important distinction we have to make it between consensual sexual dom/sub play in a relationship, and the relationship as a whole. The former can be totally fine and healthy, as long as it's consensual and fulfilling for both. But I don't see how a relationship as a whole can be healthy if there's a strong dominant-submissive dynamic between the partners in general

Well historically that's how it has always been. For many centuries and in many cultures women had to submit to their husband. So that's where my question is coming from. In the eyes of the modern world and modern relationships. As time goes on, words take a different meaning. So what submissive was to older generations can be something totally different for us in our generation. For example me personally as a women ig NOW, I don't believe in there being a dominant one in the relationship, but I still understand a MAN is the head of family. I believe submission is going to always be apart of relationships because I believe we both submit to each other in different ways. However my question was ine-sided. I wanted to get the views or the ideas of what people of today think a submissive woman is. Or heck do they believe in it, do they think it's mandatory etc etc. Doesn't mean I'm saying women should be submissive. I was just looking for thoughts that's all!!
