Can a terrible first love experience traumatized you for life?

Can it be so tramatizing that you either stop believing in love, always withhold information for any new partners, never date again or date multiple people for fun?

Example of bad love experience:
- They cheated on you someone you know
- They abused you and make you believe it's your fault
- They used you for sex or money... or for both things
- They fake a future for years, never intended to marry you... lied about it
- They scammed and stole from you, etc.

That's the reason I went to see a psychologist in Oct of last year. He wasn't just after pleasure but for wealth too. Even the initial friendship was a lie.

I think the worse part is I've invested too much for nothing. To me faking love for years and then using them for money/as a commodity is worse than using someone for their bodily fluid.

Well yeah an exceptionally bad relationship would definitely sully just about anyone's drive to date. Or even a good relationship that ended badly and unexpectedly.

yes it can, esp if it was an abusive relationship, or you were cheated on, things like that can leave very deep emotional scars that are hard to get past.

I don't know if I would nesscarily use the word traumatized, but if the experience was THAT bad then yeah.

Yes I was cheated on and I saw her do it, I was deeply affected, it’s very difficult to trust women now

I'm sorry to hear that. Though, I think my bad experience beats it.
I've been cheated on (I found out eventually), love and future faked, used for pleasure and lastly used for wealth. He wanted my parents and grandma dead in the future so he can then take over 1/2 of the money. Now that's gotta be evil.

As a matter of fact, he was a monster. My psychologist labelled him both a narcissist and a sociopath. I've been told those people can try to crawl back somehow even if you block them; can even be online stalkers. He tried getting into my childhood friend's FB by putting ''I likes'' on her page. She blocked him after I told her my story. Wow... just wow

It will certainly make a person less trusting. With time and the right set of circumstances it does not need to be permanent.
