Hate to say it but to a certain degree, yes you do need some sort of self-love.

Yes. If you don't love yourself enough you can put the other person's needs too far above your own and not recognise when the relationship is damaging to you or your mental health.
No, plenty of broken women who don’t love themselves still end up in relationships. Problem is I’m just not attractive to women or I’m gay and blind to that fact
Me-I was born w/self love. I am a Mexican-Chicano Arrogant. And I don't care if it's a "sin".'M Christian. But Differ from God in some ways. If on Judgement Day, God and I have our Differences-I'ma tell'm, "Then it wzn't meant for us t' b attached. Destroy my existence".
I believe you have to love, or at least like yourself to a point in order to understand something about love. I've seen therapists who list that as one of the "myths" in psychology, but I don't think it's a complete myth.
@Guardian45 I saw this video from a psychologist who thinks that "you have to love yourself in order to love someone else" is a myth. I don't agree completely.
Yes. How can you expect anyone else to love you if you can't even do it yourself? Relying on someone else to bring you happiness is straight up mean and will lead to a disaster.

I rarely correct people for that. I do it all the time.

Yes, you need to love yourself before you can truly love someone else.

Yes, I believe I've got to love myself before loving others.
Was trying until some people butts in and puts a stop to it all….
Well done… 👍
So when will you let me more like…?
Nope. I hate myself, but I love others just fine
I hope they love you back!
Do you think they might figure that out and get turned off by that?
Emi, they do
If they do, that's on them. I don't need reciprocation to love them.
It's good to know that they appreciate you and your love. :-)
Yes honestly I do.

Why a myth?

Not really. Relationships aren’t easy, they just aren’t.
No. But you can't be suicidal, and hating yourself, either.
No, tons of suicidal depressed people etc do love others.
No, but I do believe I need to respect myself for others to treat me right.
No. I'm not able to love myself but i can love other people (or animals) a lot.
To a good extent at least, yes. Definitely something I need to work on…
Yeah that is true..
