I think this can be fine depending on the context. For example my girlfriend is pregnant and when she was at the ultrasound with me recently the doctor referred to me as her "husband". Neither of us corrected her as the main point is the role as a partner and future father here and not the legal relationship status.

I think if there are witnesses and some sort of formal ceremony, then it's fine. But otherwise, no I think it's very misleading. Because there there are a huge amount couples who think they are going to last forever, the majority of which are obvious, inevitable failures. So if all those people were to call each other husband and wife that it would further make the meaning of those words weak.
