My girlfriend said her dog comes first?

So my girlfriend got an aggressive dog. Hates men, but liked me up until a point. The dog bit me twice. First was my fault. I was playing with the dog, he got over stimulated, and bit me (real bite.) in my arm, cutting it open. I didn’t retaliate or react. The second time happened a week ago. The dog was laying on me, licked me, I kissed his nose, and without any warning or growling, he bit me in my jaw, latching on the second bite. I pushed him off, he came back for another snap, I punched him in his jaw. He cooled his ass down after that. I didn’t continuously beat him, I wasn’t mean after. But it was an unprovoked bite, and he leaked me open. I was pissed. I DID tell my girlfriend if he bites me like that again I’ll beat the living fuck out him. She’s upset. She told me “idk how we’ll work if he does that to you.” We were cool for about a day… and I asked her what she meant. She reiterated, and I said “so if it comes down to me or him, fuck me right?” She said it isn’t like that, he been in her life way longer than me and he comes first before everyone, including me. We got into an argument because I feel if we’re in a relationship, my significant other is first before any others. She got pissed and slept in another room.

But I can’t even look at her the same. She expects me to play second fiddle to a fucking dog.

To you it’s just a stupid dog that bit you twice, and you think it’s stupid that she’s choose him over you. To her that dog is like a family member, almost like a child, so she’d feel terrible if she were to get rid of him.

I think you just need to interact with the dog less. She’s not going to discipline the dog out of this behaviour.

Also both of these bites could have been avoided. I’m not saying that it’s your fault, but there are things that a lot of people do to dogs which they think are ok, but which dogs hate. People often treat dogs as if they’re cute little human kids in furry coats, but that’s obviously not what they are, they obviously think and communicate differently.

To you that second bite was unprovoked, but to him it wasn’t. When you kissed it on the nose you challenged it to a fight. A passive dog will tolerate it despite not liking it, a more dominant dog will not. Same goes with hugging or anything like that, people hug their dogs all the time but then when you look at how dogs behave with each other, hugging is a sign of dominance to them and usually kicks off a fight.

Kind of understandable, animals may not have invented light bulbs or try making everyone a faggot but they can still be family. Though I didn’t see a part where this dog got disciplined or anything so that’s kind of an L. Hypothetically speaking if you were to suffer some kind of injury away from home and she was the only human you could rely on for assistance but she refuses to offer it because let’s say this dog ate her phone, then there’s no reason for you to not be upset, that would be a huge L. But right now, I think you should just forgive the dog.

Whenever the dog is close enough raise your fist and using your other hand, spray the dog in the face with mace or pepper spray. Dogs very quickly learn to avoid pain and the dog will associate your raised fist with pain. Do that two or three times and, if you raise your fist, he will avoid you. That solves your problem.

Dogs attack to defend themselves or their territory. Hitting them is only going to make them defend even more and make them more territorial. Best thing to do is to stay still, ignore them, don't make eye contact, if they try bite you, try get an object between you ( a bag a pillow a jacket and let them take it) if they do end up biting you, try not to react, if they're holding on to you try flip their back legs up/trip them to throw off their balance. They want you to react or run away that's what makes them think they won.

I grew up on a farm, with many dogs over time. It's incredibly rare that dogs attack without any warning whatsoever. Even if the warning is a millisecond before the attack it's rarely every "out of nowhere".
If the dog was fine with OP and suddenly not it's likely he has done something to upset the dog, maybe without realising it or maybe there is more to the story that he isn't telling us. Though hitting the dog doesn't seem to come as a difficult decision to him so it wouldn't surprise me that he has hit the dog for a minor bad behaviour.

No I'm not referring to an alpha roll. An alpha roll is forcing the dog onto their side or back and holding them there. I'm literally just saying to flip or trip the dog so they release you and you can get away from them.

I was like 9 years old, two of my family dogs got into a fight (one of them was deaf) I was trying to sign and yell at them to stop. My arm got caught in the cross fire, one latched onto my arm. I had severe bruising but no major damage, didn't need stitches. They were both staffy mixes

I was 9 years old playing at a grade school playground with my friends. Out of the nowhere I was bit in the face and head by a 140 lb. Great Dane that the owner was allowing to run around unleashed. I never interacted with the dog prior to that, hell I never even saw it. It's lower jaw hooked in my upper jaw and it's upper jaw bit me just above my forehead. By some miracle he didn't come back at me, and the scar is above my hairline. But I was lucky. And the dog bit a kid the day before too, so it was euthanized. Do you have a better understanding of why I feel the way I do now?

We keep all strangers well away. I’m in close proximity because me and her live together. Even when walking the dog we stay away from people, and if left with no other options. Pick the dog up. The dog isn’t left outside by itself or unleashed.
