Am I overreacting and being controlling or do I have a right to be upset?

So my boyfriend told me that he wouldn’t go to bars without me since we are in a relationship together. Last night I found out he was at the bar till 2am he said with his friends. I felt lied to because he promised me he would only go if I was there. I was up crying all night. It made me feel like he didn’t respect our relationship and made me feel like he wants to do single people activities. Am I overreacting or did what he was doing was wrong?

He lied. Exceptions to the rules can be accepted, if he asked you first. Doing it this way seems sneeky, regardless of his intentions.
