Should a guy make friends with as many women as possible with the hopes that at least one of them would be a girlfriend and the other a side chick?

I go to university and even though I'm almost in my thirties and I only like older women and everyone is younger than me, I'd at least try to approach women and be social and see if they're interested in exchanging numbers or social media with the hopes that one of them don't friend zone you and develops a relationship, if one friend zones you then move on to the next girl until one doesn't friend zone, please I challenge you to tell me why this doesn't work to start off being social with women as a way to find a girlfriend, isn't girlfriends start by being social with a woman?
