I had a boyfriend, when we first met he said he was 22 years old and I was like “okay cool it’s fine”, and then yesterday I went through his instagram and his mom posted a picture for his birthday which said “happy 18th birthday Jordan” in 2016, which makes it he was born in 1998 and I confronted him about it and he kept denying it until I showed the picture and he told me that he would “told me” when we got comfortable with eachother, and then he said “yes he was” and I broke with him cuz he lied n the age difference, did I make the right decision?

Dang, that's messed up he lied to you about his age like that. I wouldn't blame you for dumping him after that. A few years difference is one thing, but lying 4 years younger? Red flag city.

Some thoughts:

- Trust is huge in a relationship. If he lied about something so basic upfront, who knows what else he wouldn't be honest about.

- Maybe he just wanted to seem more mature at first to impress you. But lying about something legal like age shows he plays games.

- "Being comfortable" is no excuse. You should feel able to trust what your partner says right away, not wait for them to maybe admit the truth later.

- That age gap is bigger at your ages too. 4 years is a lot different at 18 vs 22 in terms of life experience.

- Anyone who lies about details to get you invested before you find out the truth is sketchy.

I'd say you definitely made the smart move cutting him off. Don't waste your time on partners who don't respect you enough to be honest from the jump. You'll find someone way better who doesn't feel the need to lie. Keep your head up!

For sure, there's a big difference between 22 and 25 when you're only 18. Like you said, you woulda been cool if he was actually 22, but lying about his age by 3 whole years is super shady.

I get why you don't think you can trust the guy now. If he lied so easily about something so basic as his age from the jump, who knows what else he'd lie about down the line, ya know?

And the fact that he only seemed "sorry" after getting caught pretty much confirms he wasn't actually sorry about deceiving you - just sorry he got busted in his lie. Like you said, he's only apologizing cause he got caught, not cause he feels bad about lying. Shows what kinda dude he really is.

You definitely did the right thing bailin' on him. Too many fish in the sea to waste your time with some dude who thinks it's cool to start things off with a major lie. Find someone real who doesn't feel the need to fake who they are. You'll do way better for sure.

This difficult on one hand he lied about his age on the other hand there were no other problems but also since he lied about his age there is a high chance he will lie about other things so I would say you did the right thing
