I believe that love is all you need, money will come and go. I wouldn't factor financially instability as a reason not to get married yet

More marriages end from the stresses of financial problems than any other reason. What do people do when they get married? Buy a house, maybe a new car, furniture and other needs a new house brings. That on top of the $30K they spent on a wedding. I've seen it happen to people I knew. You think everything is going well for them and then you hear their cars got repossessed, their house is in foreclosure, and they are getting divorced. Turns out they didn't know each other after all, or at least knew how to be financially wise. Many people today are living paycheck to paycheck. So it is almost a #1 requirement to be financially stable and know how to keep to a budget.

depends on what you call stability. if by stability you mean they have say 60k in the bank and work a steady job. honestly no. if you mean they have steady work and they do not waste all of their money then most definitely.

Wife response: when my husband and I met he had money then as a result of just life he lost almost all of it. many would have left but he asked me to trust him and I did it was rough for both of us but in the end he got far more money than he had lost and we married shortly after. we went on several trips bought a couple houses and have since retired and started our family. we are both 39.

Yes, definitely. But it's important to separate financial stability - the ability to provide a basic lifestyle for yourself - to pay for housing, utilities, food, car, clothes, and other necessities - from a more lavish lifestyle. "Financial stability" doesn't mean 2 restaurant meals and 2 Starbucks liquid desserts per day, or to be able to buy designer clothes, or travel, or any of that stuff. That's all LUXURY, and that's beyond financial stability. Nothing wrong if you can afford it, but it isn't NECESSARY and no one is ENTITLED to luxury.

I think most people understand this, but there is a surprising large minority who either doesn't get it because they aren't remotely financially stable, or on the other end those who think "financial stability" means a luxury lifestyle. Both are wrong.

You better believe it. Nothing is worse than either or both of you bouncing around trying to find stable jobs. Or, having to work and go to college at the same time. And if you’re married with children, that is a tv show by the way, all those other distractions are magnified even more.
All of that are distractions when in a relationship, especially at the beginning when the two of you are working out your issues.

I used to think yes.

But now that I make some money, it is somewhat overstated. Yes, money solves everything and turns everything on easy mode but realistically unless one works 2 jobs simultaneously or has multiple sources of income financial stability is not really a thing.

Money has very little value now. We're talking about having to skip buying lunch to make ends meet. Even in the average IT sector.

But if you struggling with bills already, no car, no apartment not set financially why in the hell would you want to bring that instability into a marriage where there will be even more responsibilities.
