What would you do if you had a personal android all for yourself?

You are given an artificial human complete with top notch AI, it can be anything you want - a friend, an assistant, a servant, even a romantic partner. It can even take the appearance and personality of someone else - maybe your ex, or some loved one who passed away or who's not in your life, like a parent, a sibling or a child.

There are only two caveats:

- you can't destroy it, and you have to keep it for at least one year before giving up and requesting another one or just not have one at all

- the AI is really state of the art and although they have the directive to care for you and be your companion and never hurt you, they will have real feelings and will suffer if you treat them badly or abuse them. Conversely they can feel happiness and joy if you treat them well.

I admit I would be tempted to have two of them - one would basically be the best buddy/big bro I never had. A cool guy.
Second one, and I admit it's a bit dark, would be a replica of a deceased relative, so I could talk to them again and maybe find some closure, even if it'd an illusion.

I'm against AI mostly, but not that type. I don't like the type that steals jobs from people. I'd take the romantic partner. Reminds me a lot of some Outer Limits episodes, sci-fi movies, and video games like Mass Effect with EDI and Fallout 4 with Curie.

I'm not capable of convincing a human woman to be my partner, so maybe the android would decide on her own to accept me that way. With such advanced AI, she would be unique as a human being - likes and dislikes, personality, etc. It wouldn't be a stretch to think she wouldn't be interested in me either.

How would people think of her if she goes on errands when I'm at work or goes out an about with me?

How does her body function as in an energy source? Does she use electricity? Is she able to convert food into energy like some featured in fiction?

Then, there's the whole I, Robot aspect to it. Would such a being be considered on the level of a human? Would they have the same rights? Wouldn't she just leave on her own accord? Would shutting her down be considered a type of murder?

What would her skin be like? Would it be close to human? Would she function the same way? With the whole appearance thing be possible to make her look like a mythological creature? There's just so many variables to this.

That’s so weird, literally a cat house head ass invitation for a demon to walk in it. Who would want to wake up at 3am with an Android watching them sleep at the foot of the bed? That’s too creepy for me, also people aren’t replaceable just throwing that out there. If it has real emotions then it must have a soul, animals do. What is happening

I like this question. In order for them to experience feelings of happiness or sadness, I will assume that in your hypothetical scenario A. I has developed consciousness.
I would first try to understand what they like, what they dislike and if they had no personal preferences I would attempt to help them out build them.
I would also try to gradually instill empathy in them.
Steadily I would try to be friends with them, but if they declined I would be alright with it.
I would let them choose to have whatever appearance they preferred (or none at all - their default-).
I would try to instill them their own sense of identity/self and I would try my best not to make them feel trapped or suffocated with me.
I would ask them to teach me stuff just as I would also teach them stuff and I would try to figure out in which things they differ from us regarding their thought process or their experience with the outside world.

That's good reasoning, I would probably do the same as you.

I think that one of the things that would matter the most in my opinion would be that even if they had this directive of "liking" me, they'd still have their own opinions and even disagree with me.

That and being kind with them and give back to them the good they give me. Treat them not like machines, but like people I care about.

I remember reading a short story by Alessandro Baricco where he explored this theme. A man had an adroid which replicated his deceased wife, and this android while identific to her had little differences such as collecting snowglobes.

The company that sold him the android considered it a glitch but he enjoyed the fact that the android had developed independent interests and would gift them new snowglobes for the collection.

Well, you can't destroy it but you can have turned it off. Then after one year you can turn it in and not have a replacement.

I too am uneasy around AI, but I would be intrigued to have a buddy or big bro figure.

I'd sell it or give it away.
But I really think they should all be destroyed. Except maybe for elderly people who really have no one and no means to have others take care of them. That's the only possible exception in my opinion. But human contact is better.

I have no interest in what a robot thinks.
All of my most hated movies have been about robots.

That was a thought I too had at first.
But after that, I thought it wouldn't be so bad to employ those for jobs that are to risky for humans, although you'd have to strip their AI first.
